I recorded a video of my current inspection and repair of my plane. FAA has issued an Airworthiness directive (AD 2020-21-22 R) requiring this inspection. It's on YouTube at this link. https://youtu.be/QOjpIcVoijE

Dick Merrill is an outstanding individual in the aviation community. We share a great admiration for Jerrie Mock, the courageous woman who flew her Cessna 180 solo around the world in 1964, making her the first woman aviatrix to do so. JFK's assassination, and the US/USSR space race overshadowed her feat, and she died in relative obscurity at her Florida home in 2017. When I visited an aging and reclusive Jerrie at her house in 2016, we shared many aviation stories, and I felt that her gracious invitation into her home was the mark of an aristocrat that belongs in the aviation pantheon with the likes of Earhart, Barnes, & etc. I keep an inspection plate on my 180 with her signature on it, as well as her autographed book in my library. At the request of Jerrie's family, and in accordance with her wishes, I had the honor of spreading Jerrie's ashes over the Gulf of Mexico, with Dick Merrill in his 180, painted identically to Jerrie's 180, "Three-Eight Charlie", accompanying in formation. Her story can be found in the book she wrote about her circumnavigation of the globe; appropriately titled Three-Eight Charlie.

Great video. Thanks! Seeing the tail that high with nothing holding it down made me nervous. When we had mine up like that we had a safety weight tied to the tail spring to be sure she didn’t go over on her nose. Probably not an issue but I didn’t want to take any chances.
Tom - That’s a neat story and cool inspection plate cover. I get down to Big Bend area a couple of times a year. Amazing place to fly!
Cheers
