Just closed on this 1978 A36 Bonanza and flew it to its new home at KCCR. It's got some great avionics in it (GTN750, GTN650Xi, GFC 600 A/P), a mid-time IO-520-BB, and the saddest, seventiesest interior you can imagine, complete with red shag carpeting and ashtrays. So needless to say the interior will likely be the first thing to go

...closely followed by the Aspen PFD and JPI EDM 700, analog engine instruments, and both vacuum systems. The Aspen won't altitude preselect for the GFC 600 and the Nav mode integration with the GFC 600 is pretty poor as well. I figure putting in a G500 TXi will fill PFD/EIS duties, integrate better with the rest of the avionics, and with a Gi 275 backup instrument, should be able to remove a good chunk of vacuum system weight as well. And may as well remove the draggy Flying-V antenna while we're at it.

But in the meantime, it's time to fly it. A lot.

Welcome! I flew to CCR from FAT once in 1993. Was my first trip with passengers after getting my ticket. 18 years old with my mom and younger brother in a 172 and got very badly lost. Learned some good lessons that day.

I was wondering about this new A36 I've been seeing on the ramp! Looks really nice! My dad and I just brought home a '82 B36TN to the East ramp as well, hope to meet you soon!

Nice! Good looking plane. Don't know about you but I'm still amazed that I can just show up any time I want, jump in the A36 and fly it anywhere I want without asking anyone's permission. Feels like I'm getting away with something.
