I think the airframe paint log entry is from April 12th, 2016 (from Prestige Aircraft) at tach time 1377.9. Later in 2016 (the month is cutoff, maybe 12/19/2016) at tach time 1405.4 a log entry mentions installing (after painting and balancing) overhauled ruddervators (from SRS, not balanced, painted, or installed by SRS) - this paint, balance, and install entry does not appear to be by Prestige Aircraft (from the best of my reading)

Kyle, I think your timeline of paint/ruddervator overhaul/ruddervator paint/balance and reinstallation is a bit off. And there’s a story behind that timeline.

I’ve left Neal a voicemail expressing concern about the possible impression this ad leaves of Prestige Aircraft, which is an excellent, diligent paint shop.

I’m treading carefully, and trying to comply with the BT Terms of Service. Suffice it to say that I’d be happy to put you directly in touch with Walter “Fed” Federoshen of Prestige.

Feel free to PM me. I’ll get back to you ASAP.

Hi John,

I got your voicemail and just returned your call as well. Give me a ring anytime tonight up until 10pm Pacific Time and we can discuss. I just read the logbooks and did some research into the timeline of events as it respects to the repaint of the aircraft, the ruddervator overhaul/treat/prime, and repaint of the ruddervators. Here is what I found:

-Aircraft repainted 4/12/2016 at 1377.9 tach time

-Ruddervators removed, repainted, and reinstalled by the seller's mechanic on what appears to be 2/19/2016 at 1405.4 tach time (and the ruddervator overhaul work by SRS Aviation is referenced in this entry)

-Ruddervators overhauled, treated, and primed by SRS Aviation 7/20/2016 (but the logbook entry states that the ruddervators were not painted or installed by SRS Aviation).

That all said, it is clear to me that the ruddervators were overhauled and repainted after the plane was painted in 2016 due to the fact that those logbook entries are after the aircraft repaint entry in the logbooks and also due to the fact that the ruddervator repaint entry has a higher tach time than the aircraft repaint entry. However, the reason why Kyle initially thought that the ruddervators were overhauled and repainted prior to the repaint of the entire aircraft is because the seller's mechanic's logbook entry very much appears to say "2/19/16." I've stared at it for a while now and and it is my best guess that the mechanic either intended to say 12/19/16 (or another month between July and December) or perhaps the logbook photo inadvertently cut off a digit in the date and that it actually does say 12/19/16. I am unclear as to the correct answer at this time but I do firmly believe that the ruddervators were removed, overhauled, primed, repainted, and reinstalled after the aircraft's paint was completely redone in 4/2016. I apologize for the inadvertent error and confusion in the timeline of events and the ad will be corrected shortly. If there is more to the story or more facts that would be helpful for Kyle to accurately and fairly represent the plane, please let me and/or Kyle know. Thank you!

If it is helpful, I have attached the relevant logbook entries to this post.

-Neal

Yep, I agree! I didn't realize you had responded as I started working on my response 2 hours ago and then had some friends come over for a bit and didn't finish the response until after you posted. Thank you for the research!

The timeline has been updated to reflect that the ruddervators were reinstalled in 12/2016 (my autocrop feature had taken out the "1" in "12"). See attached photo of that logbook entry.

Hey Rick without stomping on the sale thread of this aircraft, if someone found an airplane that had corrosion similar to things pictured here, what kind of money would one plan to budget for repairs (maybe per spot or panel?)… Might make an interesting value proposition for an educated buyer to know things like this while looking at this and future airplanes.

Looking at the Ruddervaders themselves they don't look bad, but the stabilizers and a few other areas really need to have the Corrosion fixed asap.

Good points. I'm also looking to downsize to a single, as I don't need a Baron any more, and the V35A is a good one (had one before).

Sure looks like there was some lack in quality on the prep on the paint job in 2016 as there looks like several spots of corrosion. For "me", I'd certainly plan to completely strip and repaint the whole plane. Corrosion is kinda like cancer and hard to stop. So, I'd budget for a new paint job. If the corrosion is significant, there may be extra work involved.

However, a detailed inspection is certainly worth doing.

Overall, that would be a nice long range and capable fast Bonanza.
