Hello fellow Beechcraft owners and enthusiasts, This past weekend I ferried my first Beechcraft from Fresno, CA to Manassas, VA, a 1947 35 Bonanza. She is one of the first 500 made and has a little under 5000 hours total time and a lot of nice modifications like the wing spar strap, tip tanks, 3rd window, etc. I bought her as a time-builder and she mostly works, mainly just the VOR/ILS receivers need a little tuning and the GPS could certainly be updated... But she made the 17 hour journey home in one piece and I can't wait to fly her some more. Any guidance on what I should do to make her a better trainer would be appreciated, the main thing I want is an IFR-capable GPS and maybe a better DG or full HSI. She has ADS-B out already (obviously) so maybe a Garmin 175 with a couple Garmin G5s would be perfect. Don't want to break the bank though. Congratulations. I know you only did that for the photo but I will not be leaving that fuel nozzle in the neck of the tank. Unnecessary stress on the tank and filler neck. Im adding 2x G5’s and a GNC355 GPS+Com to a 172 for my 17yr old to get his Inst. rating. Enjoy!! Nice airplane! Details like what engine? What did you see as a true airspeed all the way back (not ground speed), maybe fuel consumption on the long cross country etc
You have proven once again that one can fly all the way across the country with out 4 TV screens to look at and play with. :-)

In addition to fitting nicely over there, it will and send a repeat of all displays and functions* to your IPAD which can be located somewhere more practical *(minus actually switching comm freq). Thank you for this information! The panel is from a newer Bonanza, it doesn't have that older look anymore, but I'll definitely look into that Avidyne system. The radio stack is on the right now. I use ForeFlight so any iPad connectivity functions would be great.

You have proven once again that one can fly all the way across the country with out 4 TV screens to look at and play with. :-) Engine is the E-225-8, she has 510 hours now after the trip. We did about 10-11gph the whole way and only used 2 quarts of oil. It was just under 18 hours of flying. I love no-nonsense machines, she's a great VFR machine. A question: since the engine has been upgraded in power from the original E-185 (yes I know they all made 185hp at sea level but since the 225 spins faster it does make more), is it possible to have the max gross certified at more than 2550lbs? We were at max gross at nearly every takeoff and she did 800fpm or so without a problem.

Makes sense, I'll see if I can find the records of that. Each tip tank is 10 gals so probably 120lbs total. Thanks again.
