The LCD can be replaced and it's not a terribly expensive part(<$50) and is available from DigiKey. You do need someone that can solder relatively fine pitch components though. If you do this or have someone do it, pay very close attention to the orientation of the switch relative to the circuit board it's mounted on as it can go two ways and only one will work.
