Yes Tom, he doesn't quite fit our retirement needs.

No! Was looking forward to the next episode in ABS. Maybe he needs to move to Des Moines.

Would you be interested in a trade for a Lancair 235? I have one, but it is to small for my family. Doesn’t fit my mission right.

'nice' is too modest, this is a beautiful classic V tail!

Thank you very much, but the Lancair is too small for needs as well.

Well... this is embarrassing and fortunate.

It seems I have been not flying Chip enough, and when I do I am focused on retaining my skills. Diane has been of the opinion that this will never change, and with retirement pending, our move to Texas, and Chip hanging out in a tie down, she felt it was time to move on, or use Chip for more worthwhile endeavors.

So I did what anyone else would do, scheduled a farewell flight from Abilene to Georgetown, and invited her and Dakota, our good ol' golden Retriever, a retired service dog, along. We landed and got the complete parking experience at Abilene Aero including the little rug to alight upon. https://www.abileneaero.com/ A short wait around lunch time in their beautiful lobby area, and then borrowed the almost new Ford Fusion for a trip into town for lunch at Sharon's Barbeque https://www.sharonsbbq.com/. A quick call to Abilene Aero to confirm we could keep the car a bit longer, and we toured the Grace Museum https://www.thegracemuseum.org/ and the exterior of the T&P Depot across the way. We headed back and found a gaggle of people wanting to speak to us... one of Chip's previous owners from the '70s had happened upon him on the ramp and wanted to touch base, since he was a good friend of the president of Abilene Aero, we got quite the reception on our return.

About the rustiness... I slightly mismanaged my fuel on departure, something I've never before done, my buttonology on the KLN-90B was almost flawless... except for inverting the route I placed in it. We were cleared at KABI for Cross mid runway 35R to a Right Base to 35L and we both felt my approach was 'mushy' and low. The approach to KGTU that evening was also unconventional, cross midfield for a right downwind to 36, cleared to land. Which I read back and jotted down. Very close in there was a Kingair on Left Downwind for 35 and the controller decided I should follow him, but I was too close and declined the clearance inviting the controller to call my right base instead. Of course by taking the right traffic, the Kingair was no longer a factor and I landed uneventfully with a 3/4 mile final approach, albeit with criticism from the controller. Nothing was ever in doubt, but it was rusty... which is why I like doing a flight by myself before taking Diane up when I've had a several week period of no flying. Diane's point is that it is perfectly fine to expose her to rustiness while executing a flight for a purpose. We also suddenly added a client in Florida and Diane would rather me be on Chip than in an Airline, if possible.

So for the time being Chip is off the market, I'm soon to be quite busy with Ag business projects that have been on hold and the new client, and Dakota is still able to stand on his rear bench while belted in and laughing at the airborne view out of his airplane.

Warmly,
Dave

That is truly fantastic news. Were the timing better, I'd have PM'd you and been done with it. As is, the February 2020 issue of ABS magazine will become even more well-worn, knowing "Chip" remains in great hands.

Lots of neat information on Chip, et. al., on your website, BTW.

Great news.
Really glad that you are able to keep that baby for yourself. And get to work with it... Yeah...

Now just need to go on vacation with it.
