I just pulled this engine out of my F35. Would be a good core. It has approximately 1600 hours on it. Located in PR. I can crate for no cost. $1800 OBO buyer pays freight.

Bump to the top. Make an offer! You can get it rebuilt and on standby to reduce downtime when your engine says enough is enough.

Btw, shipping isn’t as bad as you might think. I used YRC to ship my new engine down here and the biggest expense was the extra insurance I paid. It would have been 2-300 bucks

FWIW there is an E35 at auction right now that had a top overhaul detonate during runup. Brand new cylinders are ok, it's the core that threw a rod.

Put that and this together and you might get a relatively inexpensive E-series during a time that good planes are really pricey.

GLWS!

Hi Rich,
Do you mind sharing the information on the E35 with the bad engine. Which auction?

Thanks

Sure, it's Avemco's parent division - Tokio-Marine auction.

It appears someone was trying to resurrect a hangar queen and the core didn't like it. 6 new cylinders and during runup the #2 (?) cylinder was blown out by a rod departing the crankshaft at high RPM.

The other 5 cylinders are likely fine and with a light cleanup at a shop will be good for rebuilding this one. The other one who knows, but it's 1/4 of the way towards the cost of rebuilding the engine.

Looks like good bones, bad paint job and such. I personally wouldn't bid more than $7k or so on it given the need for an engine, paint, at least one navigator in there, etc. If it were an F or G model I'd bid more but after owning an early E-series with the aft aux tank unless I just never put more than 2 people in the plane I wouldn't mess with anything earlier than an F unless it had tips.

However someone else this may fit their mission nicely. Put it with this engine and there ya go.

A salvage company wouldn’t pay over 2500.00 for it. It needs disassembled and trucked. This costs time and money.

You'd be shocked what things are selling for.

I was bidding on a Cherokee 180 that had been in a HARD wreck for the engine logs, tag, and accessories for overhauling mine since my project for my son has no logbooks.

Factory AC, Avidyne screens, two 430's only one was WAAS, decent but well-used interior, very few exterior parts. Case and crank certainly destroyed by impact.

I bid $22k plus a 10% buyer's premium. I got out-bid.

In this case I'd pull the engine and have it shipped here and disassembled, buy THIS engine in this for-sale ad, rebuild with the newer cylinders off the other engine the best of each components, have spares to build later, then ship it back to this airplane, re-install it, run and break in, then fly home with a fresh annual.

It's a LOT cheaper and easier than disassembling and shipping.

If this goes a dime under $5k I'd be very surprised, especially with the ruddervators. My guess is closer to $7k with buyer's premium. People are bidding STUPID money for things.

I saw this engine, 1&2 cylinders are distroyed, the accessory case is bare, whereabouts of parts unknown. From what I was told, the motor mount problem is why the insurance company decided to scrap it. Probably a good idea!

What motor mount problem? The Bonanza or the Cherokee?

And why would an engine throwing a rod in the front two cylinders cause an engine mount problem?
