1.- Congratulations on resisting the urge to mess with your wing leading edges. The original, classic wing and wingtips are a work of art. I only did mine because I taxied across low-hanging barbed wire once too many times. An old timer from JAARS once told me that the cuffs, fences, etc. only serve to get the pilot deeper in doo-doo before it gets to be too late.
2.- Please tell your buddy with the girlfriend that I hate him. That probably applies to the majority of the guys on this thread, even if some may not want to admit it.
3.- I'm going back to fat tires instead of those girlie skinny ones, exposed brake calipers instead of those silly-a$$ wheel panties, and western saddles instead of those effeminate English ones, in hope that I might get lucky.
Best,
TN Nice pony!

Molto Grazie, Commendatore Scarpati! Nothing worse than thread drift, but there is something about the outside of a Skywagon (and the outside of a horse), that is good for the inside of a man. (Modified from Winston Churchill, a Polo player in his own right). Here is the gelding at speed, and in his element. As I am "vertically challenged", this the only sport where I can control a man twice my size and one-third my age. Tommy Lee Jones offered some serious dinero for him, but such is the love for a horse, that I could not let him go.... same for the 180.

Username Protected wrote: By ordinance, I believe English saddles are illegal in Texas. Cecil Smith, a Llano, Texas cowboy, was the best horse maker and polo player after Tommy Hitchcock, another 10-goaler that was killed in a P-51 during WWII. Cecil showed the fancy Easterners how to play, wining the USPA open in his stovepipe cowboy boots. He could mount any saddle, Western, English, McClellan, Aussie, or none at all. It's not as much about the saddle or the horse... It's about the rider. It's not as much about the turbos or the glass panels.... It's about the pilot. TN

I grew up riding my grandfather’s English saddles in Falfurrias, Texas. He took up polo in his later years.

My grandfather played, and knew your grandfather. My dad was set to go to NMMI and play, but the depression kept him at the farm. Great line of cattle you all developed. Finally got the hell out of Mexico, as you all so wisely did earlier. With luck, I'll get to meet you in person.

TN would you gentlemen be so gracious as to start a thread on polo? I have enjoyed the comments, and would like to read more....it's a sport I have no experience with, but would like to read about.

Agree! Since reading WEB Griffin as a kid and having watched some pretend “arena” polo I’d love to learn more!
