Anyone out there have a Seneca (II preferably) and a Stormscope WX-500? Trying to figure out where the common location of the antenna is.

Thanks,

Michael

Most of the Stormscope antennas are mount on the lower fuselage, right behind the aft cargo door.

Thanks. I’ve seen that antenna there on other Seneca pictures but couldn’t tell if it was Stormscope or ADF.

Check your WX-500 installation manual carefully, the location of the sensor is very sensitive. Make sure your avionics shop does a skin mapping of the fuselage to find the best location for the antenna. Away from interference from other antennae, fuselage strobe or beacon, inside cable harnesses, electric motors, etc.

Although different, I had an Insight Strike Finder installed on a T337G with a cargo pod, the avionics shop at College Park did not know, and did not read the installation manual. Also because it was easier they installed the antenna on the top of the fuselage -- it did not work and did not show the lightning strikes.

With the new Strike Finder SF 2000, the sensor may be mounted on either the bottom or the top of the fuselage… Same with your WX-500, but location is still very sensitive.

Although mine is a PA32, it’s the same hull as the Seneca minus one engine. My WX10A antenna is aft of the cargo door about 2 feet on the left side of the lower fin.

I went out and looked at my Seneca. It has the ADF Antenna just aft of the cargo door on the co-pilot side. This is close to under the heater. I can be removed and I will try the Stormscope aft of the cargo door on the pilot side.

Does the skin mapping take special equipment?

Michael

Yes! Goodrich/3M used to make a skin-mapper. An avionics shop approved to sell/install stormscopes should have one. All the aircraft equipment has to be turned on during the process. Terry M. knows all about this and should chime in :D
