I just found this ad on Barnstormers. I wonder if there's much of a market for an replica like this. It's cheaper of course than the real thing but still a lot of money.

Does that prop look too big?

Well, it is.

The prop is about 12 inches bigger diameter than the Spitfire which is why this has seriously reduced prop ground clearance.

A wheel landing, or a tail up takeoff, could be very expensive.

I have known Bob for over 30 years. He has rebuilt a number of other classic planes as well. It took him quite a number of years to complete this project. I remember when he started it. He is a meticulous craftsman and it's a work of art!!

A lot of bang for the buck considering the cost of a new G36 or SR22!

Makes sense. I wonder why he selected that prop?
Do you think there wasn't a shorter prop available that could handle that engine, perhaps?

Lovely, a flat tire or strut looks like it would put you in prop strike range.

Yeah, i don’t get that. I’m not in the business, but I’d have gone to a lot of trouble to avoid making the prop clearance less, In fact it wouldn’t have crossed my mind.

You Mean Like This? :bugeye: As far as Prop Clearance? I've seen Three Point Landings, but when I see This  I think of Three Point Takeoffs

He wanted a Curtiss electric prop but couldn’t get an affordable one ($100,000+). So he got a $3000 prop from a DC3 and had it overhauled for $3500. He knows it’s too big and was advised to cut it down by his Allison mechanic but never did. There’s a video on YouTube of him talking about building it. Very impressive achievement.

This plane is just down from my hangar and Bob is a wonderful guy. Every time he pulls it out and fires it up it’s a thrill!

Pttttf! With that Alison engine, how is he going to get up to 25,000 feet and tangle with the 109s? I'll bet he left the guns off, too.

Seriously, I'm buying a lottery ticket this weekend.

I have flown in the same sky with Bob in that airplane. It's a very nice replica.

Oversized props can be managed. But, they DO have to be managed.
