Thank you for sharing this very interesting video! Great insight into the design and operation of the Hind. In the mid-late 1990s, the DoD held an annual joint exercise called All Service Combat Identification Evaluation Team (ASCIET) in the Gulf of Mexico and at land bases in Mississippi and Louisiana. ASCIET included an incredible combination of ground, sea, and air forces training together. I provided engineering technical support for a long-range air surveillance radar during the 1996 edition. Early one morning as I drove to the radar site, I noticed a strange looking helicopter preparing to depart the Gulfport, MS airport. The dim light of dawn soon brought an Mi-24 into focus. I had no idea that the US had “obtained” Hinds at that time and that they would be taking part in the exercise. Realistic training took on an entirely new meaning!

Remember seeing that one out on the line and turning as we taxied in for lunch that day Robert.. Chad - I can't remember exactly (and Robert was probably busy so he cant back me up here) - but I probably shouted WOLVERINES and LONG LIVE RAMBO

There I was...flight instructing at Auburn University in the fall of 2003 when the Soviets invaded KAUO one nice, clear blue day. Not really... But an Mi-8 Hip and an Mi-24 Hind F did land and spend several hours on our ramp. Of course I crawled all over the Hind, with it's fixed 30mm cannon and downward looking periscope that was cleared to drop 500lbs bombs. Way cool stuff for someone who grew up reading all I could on military aircraft. Hotty Toddy!! (If you thought I was going to say something else...  )
