Remove the screw that attaches the arm to the window frame and then tape it down to the window frame. This will let the window fly parallel with the wing.

Yesterday worked on this in my 1972 C182P.

It doesn't work on my plane.

Yes, I can take out the screw and that allows the window to hinge upwards. But, the hinge only goes up to about 80 degrees. Not 90 degrees. And to rest against the bottom of the wing (maybe secured some with velcro or such) would require 100 degrees.

With the window in the slipstream bouncing up and down the stress on the two top hinges will certainly tear them out.

Maybe I can make a bracket attached somehow to the bottom of the wing that will secure the window at the 80 degrees it can hinge to. Not sure how to attach to the bottom of the wing (Once I work out physically how to do it maybe I can mount as an owner produced part).

Instead of attaching to wing, giving some thought to a longer prop rod of some kind that uses the existing attaching points could be worth it

The window does not bounce up and down on the 182's I have flown until you have a slow airspeed, say less than about 50 knots. Anything above that and the window will go right to a spot parallel with the wing, never hitting the wing, and stay there. I've not seen a 182 window not open enough to contact the wing if you lift it up there so you have something else going on.

What Scott said. I’m repeating myself, because I also stated this earlier in the thread.

1964 182G. Owned 5 years, 500 hours. Trust me!

I have removing the screw from the window to take pics for years now. The window will float to the underside of the wing and stay there until you pull it back down. This is due to the high pressure on the bottom of your wing. It is advisable to limit your speed to under 120 indicated. It save wear and tear on the hinges, which are not cheap and a PIA to replace. I do put a couple of felt dots on the outside of the window frame to keep it from possibly marring the underside of the wing. I have down this on both my 185 and 206 without issues. On my old Birddog, this was normal and there where even clips on the bottom of the wing to hold it tightly in place.

The camera ports are not my first choice, second or even third. We tried a lot of different models at NOAA for our science work. Depending on your airspeed they will set up a resonate beat in the cabin which actually becomes painfully loud. We took the all out. Just removed the screw.

Now point of caution. If your support arm is worn or bent and if the channel it slides in is worn with a large gap you need to be careful. I would recommend that you use a bit of duct tape to hold the arm securely against the door frame side. It keeps it from potentially flopping about and the spring coming off and the arm not actually being on your airplane when your done.

An extraneous thought. If you have the window wide open, you need to be very careful about using your phone to take photos, lest it depart your hand and exit the plane.

I do not want to add up all the sunglasses that got sucked out of windows over the years. I just lost a filter off a lens a week ago. Don't even think about hoods. There is the need to wear gloves this time of year and I wear a helmet, for warmth.
