I opened an aviation focused Etsy store for my "Litho-Plane" prints:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/Aloft3DPrinting

I also am able to perform 3D design work if you have a need. I've designed and printed cockpit iPad shades, an Avidyne keyboard mount, scat coupler, decorative hub caps and other useful objects.

I'd also be happy to discuss 3D printing with anyone in the group who has interest ... then you can make your own cool and useful stuff!

That's certainly a possibility! However, it may not be perfectly clear and more opaque ...

I assume you are unable to acquire one from GAMI?

Thanks,
Rich

I've tried printing clear items on several occasions and with different materials.
IMO, 3D printing is not suitable for printing such lenses. They end up translucent at the very best (or at least I've never been able to make anything that anyone would describe as "clear").

I think you'd have a lot more success at a passable part if you 3D printed a mold and vacuum form clear acrylic over the mold, then trim to fit. You can make a lot more parts per hour that way as well.

However you make them if they are good and clear I'm sure you would sell a lot of them!

I agree. I think the result will be an opaque lens.

Certainly the mold approach would result in the best product.

Can you print a plastic cubby that would fit in, say, a panel hole vacated by a Narco transponder?

great place for keys/change/phone etc!

Just thinking out loud, have you called Great Lakes Aero Products and asked them to make them? If they know there is a demand, I'm sure they would tool up for them. They would probably need one for a templet, or some kind of templet. I think you would find their price is very reasonable...

Yes, but I would need measurements and photos. I can print with burn cert'ed filament but cannot claim any FAA related approvals.

Thanks
Rich

Yes. I’ll take measurements from mine this week and get back with you.

Edward,

Would you be able to send me the ashtray? That way I can make the measurements are exact.

Thanks,
Rich
