Great paint job and congrats! I like the checkerboard pattern - very subtle. I have a navy and white checkerboard tail on my Carbon Cub and really like it on tail draggers. Obviously that’s not a unanimous opinion but that’s cool - doesn’t have to be!

I just realized how much work it must be to mask a good checkerboard, and I'm even more in awe.

Are you gonna show us the interior and panel?

That tail deserves respect for the smooth suttleness. I like craftsmanship’s and pride. I know a guy with Pietenpol that would kick my ass if I made fun of it. It makes me respect his bird even more.
I could even be a lil jealous

Adam, which engine did you hang on her, the 360 or the 390, or something else?

Gary, I put a parallel valve IO-360 in it with a Catto fixed pitch prop. A simple setup with an all Dynon panel. She’s light and fast!

That’s pretty! Love the rudder.

My first impression was, "Wow. Nice paint, except the incessant need for RV owners to checkerboard the tail feather." I simply don't like the way it looks. I of course expect several smashes of the negative button for speaking the truth though. But I'd still say the same thing regardless.

Hey Baxley... I think your baby is ugly! And I'd say the same tomorrow.

What a tool.

I think we have sufficiently flogged him. No need to pile on.

Congratulations Adam. There are not many people in the world as a percentage who are pilots, and only a few of them can say that they built and fly their plane; congrats again.

A friend just finished his RV-8 fast back, also with checkerboard, very subtly done on rudder and cowl . It smokes my 520 powered 182 like I'm in slow flight. ;)

What do you think of that combo so far? I’m planning a parallel valve O-360 with a Sensenich fixed pitch in my -8. How does it slow down?

Robert

Robert, it is slippery, but manageable. Need to monitor your approach speed closely without the CS prop to help slow down. A blast to fly.

Robert, good choice, ie keeping it simple. I have the same combo in my -8. If it were me I would have the Sensenich GA or Catto prop to move the CG aft. I've never considered slowing down an issue. Plan ahead and consider using "G's." Most of my turns are 90 degrees of bank.

Very nice! Vans Aircraft are truly remarkable machines. Have put about 40 hrs on my recently acquired RV6. IO-360, CS Prop. 160 true at 7.5 gph. Not the space of the Beech but the speed and efficiency is tough to beat.

Congratulations!

I have RV-8 parts in the garage. If it’s ever finished, it will have been every bit of 16 years. I admire your commitment.
