Definitely an oddly wobbly climbout, considering it was calm winds. Will be interesting to see the readout/video, and the rationale for the quick return to base. Climb rate was definitely not sporty...I'd generally expect to be well above pattern altitude by the other end of an 8000' runway.

Long road ahead, the age old 90/90 rule... :tape: Wonder what it'll mean for the escrows, too.

It climbs like a well oiled boat anchor doesn't it?

He discussed his bail-out plans on the last video. Taking off on 35, his abort choices were the open grassy area at 1 O'Clock, followed by the highway, then Runway 04, then not so much, then back to 35.

The plan was to make a full pattern, so the Bingo to 04 suggests that he wasn't enjoying the ride but wasn't forced to land it off airport.

I just watched the video someone posted of the take off on something other than my phone and that that thing looked like it was porpoising pretty bad on that climb out. I bet that scared the crap out of him. I bet he gets a proper test pilot now.

And he was hacked off wasabi said move to a bigger airport! Glad he did.

I wonder if that re-drive came unglued under flying loads and forced him to throttle back and milk it to runway 04.

Time to donate it to the EAA and refund people's deposits. Sadly, I don't think either will happen. Glad the guy is OK.

Wow... we should rename this thread "Never-Raptor"

Congrats to the builder for doing what 99% of the participants in this thread said would never happen.

May be like the Spruce Goose where Hughes flew it once to satisfy the contract and retired it.

The highest altitude on the track log from flightaware is 600'. I'm interested to see if this was really his plan, or a bail out.

Definitely glad that he moved to Valdosta at least...with that climb rate, would've been pretty gnarly at the 5000' runway at Cherokee.

Based on the tower clip and the track logs, doesn't seem like he was much above treetop level by 6000'...

Care to back up that claim?

Most people seemed to think that it would fly, but not very well.
