I spoke to several in plane instructors and they all have a basic 3 day syllabus but will also tell you, as Tom points out, that you may need additional training. There is also sometimes mentoring flying required. Instructor rates ranged from $500 to $1,000 per day plus their expenses. When you fly your plane for 20 hours in a week the fuel bill will widen your eyes a bit too. So, I don't think an instructor in airplane is necessarily any cheaper than Simcom. I did both and as someone with no turbine experience found both useful enough that I would willingly repeat the experience and the expense.

Username Protected wrote: No - it can vary by underwriting company. The only carte blanche approved provider for the TBM is Simcom as Simcom has the factory entitlement training contract. All in-aircraft providers have to be approved by the specific underwriting company that is on your policy. So never take 'insurance approved' to mean much until YOUR specific underwriter approves that specific provider for YOUR specific policy.
Some of the larger in-aircraft training providers such as those mentioned in this thread are approved by the majority of the underwriting companies but you are best served before embarking on a training event to clear the provider with your underwriter to make sure they recognize them for your specific policy - otherwise you might have issue in a claim if the provider you used was not specifically approved by your underwriting company.
This concept is also one of the more commonly misunderstood in aviation insurance. The training providers don't help the confusion much as most of them proudly display 'insurance approved' on their websites. Again it doesn't mean much until YOUR underwriter approves that provider for your specific policy. Thanks. That's what I tried to express ever so clumsily. The insurance company has to approve the training.

Choke, cough, weez. Someday all the #'s associated with running a turbine won't scare me but they still do for now...

The answer to your question is from your insurance carrier who will underwrite the policy - you will need to confirm with them who they approve for training and if they permit in-aircraft training. I would start there as likely they have a list of approved people they recognize.

Simcom as the new 910 sim in Scottsdale. I did my 850 recurrent there last year. There is also a list of TBM instructor on TBMOPA to get in airplane training. You can see from my pic it listed by states . Username Protected wrote: Any recommendations for in-person as well as sim training in the Houston area? Looking to acquire a TBM in short order. thanks.
