We had a cracked backplate and need to get it home with a new back plate without the spinner.....cracked as well....thx in advance Can you, or are you allowed to? The TCDS will tell the tale, but certainly you could get a ferry permit if necessary. I’m pretty sure the airplane won’t care.

Be careful what you do. Operating with a new backplate and no spinner installed surely will damage the new backplate. Centrifugal force is much greater on that part than you realize. Fly it without the backplate if you aren't installing the spinner. Somewhere in the TCDS, the POH, or the maintenance manual it will state if the spinner can be left off or if it must be present for operation. Instinct tells me it can be left off because some years ago I replaced a ragged Cessna 150 spinner with a skull cap spinner. Love the plastic bulkheads that don't last.

Usually on a Cessna the Spinner and Bulkheads are not relevant for airworthiness, so you can fly legally without them (I did quite a while when Texf*** needed month to deliver a new plate and was ramp checked, so no problem also there). But, make sure you get both plates and the spinner off - naked prop for less danger.

From the Type Certificate Data Sheet:
Models 1A102/OCM and 1A101/PCM are for installation on SAE No. 1 flanged propeller shaft with McCauley P/N C-4513 spacer and must be installed in accordance with McCauley Drawing B-4515.
The McCauley drawing defines the installation requirements for airworthiness.
