Well, Peter hopped it successfully. Just a few inches — but still!

Best,

Tom

He certainly did!

About 10:00 into the video he talks about some air pressure buildup in the nose area, as he pitches to a higher angle of attack[i] at rotation, that affects his static system and makes the altimeter read a bit low and the airspeed also a bit low.

Looks like I called that wrong in my commentary about his pitot-static system earlier today; I thought it was air moving around as a result of him [i]throttling back
(and it affecting the static system). I don't mind being wrong (not the first nor the last time) and I'm glad he's narrowed down his troubleshooting on that particular system.

It flew. Yay. So can it stay in the hangar now before it kills someone.

Best,

Does this mean he can access the escrow funds now that it's "flown"?

Is what he did in the video against FAA regulations?

He has intent to fly and did fly a aircraft that I do not believe is legal to fly.

If a non pilot did the same thing is that OK? Where is the line drawn between flying and taxing?

Mike

I’m not clear on the rules. Is it legal for him to fly it?

I know it’s not smart, but what is the process of getting an E-AB aircraft approved for a test flight and what are the required qualifications of a test pilot?

So far as I’m aware there is not FAA approved test pilot rating and all he’d need is appropriate ratings for category and class to be legal to fly the plane.

not completely hair brained. that's how bob barrows plumbed his bearhawks. Might make the airspeed read a tad high but that's not such an issue in a low&slow plane. Different story though in something that aspires to be a piper malibu competitor.

I thought that he had already gotten the DAR signoff and AW cert?

Either this is true or he flew illegally.

The DAR signed off the airplane long ago. Those pesky test pilots keep adding things to his laundry list.

The DAR’s life is never at stake, the test pilot’s always is.

If he got the DAR sign off and AW cert long ago we now know for sure those things do not mean much. LOL

That plane was not air worthy long ago. But maybe they just look at it and say yeah it looks like a airplane and has all the things like prop, wings, seats, etc.. So its air worthy. Haha

The FAA database shows an airworthiness date of 8/27/2019.

Interesting

He is a stronger man than I. If i was single and didn't have my wife to keep me from killing myself I would have totally flown it by now. Haha

The temptation must be so so powerful. I am impressed he has not just said F it and took off.

Mike

That is my biggest concern... And just because he was able to get that little hop on the runway which he calls flying... He may think: "Oh Yeah, it's ready... "
