Let's say the finished product is a real porker at 5,000lbs and use 1.3 for max coefficient of lift* and use V REF = V S × 1.3 Math says 5,000lbs + 167sq.ft. + C L1.3 = 82 knots stall speed Multiply V S × 1.3 to get V REF = 107 knots That's fast for a single but nothing special in the big scheme of things. If we use the suggested max gross weight then the numbers come out to 72 and 93. Sorry to sound like a wet blanket. If he wants the stall speed to be "61 knots" then that airfoil is going to need a lot of attention. * 1.3 is a reasonable, conservative number. 1.5 is average for a flapless airfoil a GA airplane, so take away a bit for this being a slightly swept wing on a canard airplane (canard means the main wing will typically never see critical AoA and slightly swept means it won't make quite as much peak lift) don't canards run a higher stall speed due to their airfoil and wing design over conventional?
160 lb cable tension is pure stupidity. I'm surprised he can move the controls at all.

Yep, and it's not inconceivable that a lot of people who can legally fly it (single engine airplane rating) will have had no experience in an airplane with such a fast final. It's not something that is overly difficult to learn and adapt to, but it is one more risk factor if the thing ever makes it to market. Some of the Velocitys "stall" (mush) around 70 knots. This airplane appears to be as fast or maybe a little faster than that.

BTW, we made it 58 pages and 8 months in this thread without that word, 'polar.'

The solution? A hair tie.
You can't make this stuff up. Well, I guess you could, but no one would believe you. I had to laugh at that “fix” when I saw it. And what in hades is up with that gear retract and drop? I’ve never seen anything like it. The rears just flop down and that weird pulse on the retract. Those huge holes that are left open should be great on the aero. A Velocity XL with TN is going to be just as fast and will have an UL of 1000.

Exactly!!! I wouldn’t trust him to build anything except maybe a complicated Rube Goldberg device with no real purpose, no lives at stake, and no need for it to last much more than a couple of cycles.
