More consolidation driven by business-jet market in a multiyear slump due to weak demand, with deliveries at half the level of their peak in 2008. Apparently the economy is not as great as some would like to have us believe. It looks like Textron is willing to risk the investment of more of their corporate funds on the business jet segment rather than their GA business. I bet they let Cessna and Beech piston GA just live within their own cashflow which will result in a slow liquidation over time as they milk that segment. Considering that they have already abandoned the Skycatcher and the TTX, it seems less likely that they will mount any new investment to challenge Cirrus piston.

Buying bigger bizjet lines at a discount versus developing their own products from scratch has to be appealing to the bean counters... They've false-started twice now on a Global Express/Gulfstream competitor and now have a chance to wave a wand (and write a check) to enter that market.

More of this just may be the family/corp of Bombardier wanting out of the aircraft manufacturing business.

1) Sold the C series 100 seat airliner to Airbus to be the A-220 series

2) Sold the legacy Challenger series to Mitsubishi

3) Wants to sell what is left to Textron

In the long run, and I haven't seen any fiscal info, but did Bombardier Aircraft division ever make any money by designing, building, and selling airplanes? They have had to go to the CA government several times for bailouts/assistance over the past 30 some years.

At the sound of the Bell, the Challenger must go down to the Beech to Lear at a Hawker a Cessna.

Only thing of value in there is the Global Express. The Learjet's are unfortunately boat anchors. Unless they re-certify one as SP to take on Phenom crowd, my prediction is that Learjet is a dead brand that will fold very soon. Which is extra sad, as its legacy w. Bill Lear* is so cool.

*you just don't see guys like Bill Lear that much anymore - completely self made with almost no education.

Slight correction... They pretty much gave the C-series to Airbus, and sold the CRJ regional jet line to Mitsubishi.

They still have the Challenger and Global for now.
