For those of you who are MMOPA members, this is a an attempt to reach a larger aviation community for a thread I started a year ago at that site. (I used to fly a F33A, By the way) The thread was about a perceived baffle problem because my #4 CHT would shoot to 450, after just a few minutes of takeoff or cruise climb. Cruise and descent were no problem. Without naming shops, I go to a prominent shop in VRB. I have spared no expense in keeping this plane safely maintained. Ok, a year ago the engine had 1900 hours. Shop told me the problem was the engine is old—-time for an OH. This was despite using only one quart Oil in 15-20 hours, compressions in the 60s. However, I was not getting the proper fuel flows by the POH, nor the RPMs. The shop told me was not worth fixing, just get an OH. That’ll cure everything. Ok, ended up getting a local shop OH for the 520BE. I could not get a reman from continental. I also had all my baffles replaced with the Gee Bee product. I am now 100+AMUs with a nearly A complete FWF done.
I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!
Fuel flows are correct now. RPMs make to red line now. MP is swell. Engine feels fine. I have a well known instructor/test pilot working for me. We are, what can I say, baffled!!??
I cannot get over 8000 feet without #4CHT going to 450. We have swapped CHT probes. We have swapped fuel injectors. I have about 15 hours now on the new engine, oil consumption is stabilizing.
For the last 200 hours on my “old” engine, I essentially climbed at 65% power, for me that’s 2500/25 in mp, full rich. I don’t want to keep flying like this.
ANY SUGGESTIONS!!?? I don’t know what else to do..... Thx for listening

I’m a little curious how you got to 100k for a field overhaul? Seems like 50-75k would be more appropriate.

Temperature probe or short in the wiring? Maybe move them around.

The PA46 series has a problem with a weak engine mount/nose wheel mount. Both are the same. It’s usual at OH to remove it, OH the mount, reinstall nose wheel. That’s about 16AMUs, if all goes wrong-meaning broken stuff. Better now, than on landing,LOL. Also, replaced all the hoses-the usual 10 year cycle. Should I go on....LOL

New cylinders at OH? Cam replaced? Ignition harness new? Mags OH or new? Was the fuel system reworked, divider etc?
Maybe it is a baffle issue or maybe something not touched at OH brought the problem along?

Well.... believe it or not.... these engines come with the factory equivalent of GAMIs... they fly LOP from the factory without problem.... this engine after OH still goes LOP without skipping a beat....

I understand everything you said, and don’t disagree. That said, I would still run the test. Post the results here and send to GAMI.
