Once the aileron flutter rips the wings off, the rate of descent should be more than high enough to make ice accumulation on the way down a non-concern.

This is a very interesting conversation... Somehow you guys are arguing the installation of heated plates on this bird... Which would imply that this bird would be flying in freezing levels.... Let's try to see if this bird can fly first. Then let's see if it can go above pattern alt. If it does all this... I would be very impressed. Icing, is not really on the board just yet.... And yes, it is supposed to be holding pressure at high altitude as well... Like someone has said: Fly, Raptor, Fly...

The good news is I don't think he is using the deice feature on the prototype. He does have the recirculation to heat the fuel. The bad news more stuff = more pounds. Pretending it flies and makes descent performance numbers. The redesign to get this thing trimmed down would be interesting. I think he would have to kill the pressurization to bring this thing into reality on the weight side. But, then there goes the need for this turbo setup and being able to go fast up high. So, that kills the interest in the project too.

If you shut off the coolant flow to the main wings, there should be enough retained heat mass to keep the canard clear of ice throughout the brief plummet to ground. That said, with most of the fuel in the soon to depart wings, I think you might find the size of the post crash fire, if any, to be disappointing. I would go as far as to bet that the cause of death will not be the fire, and that your estate will have to pay extra for your cremation if that is your desire. If you are looking for a fiery crash, there are some Eurocopter/Airbus Helicopter products I might recommend over the Raptor.

As for the other posters, the issue isn't taking an aluminum wing near a thunderstorm. The issue is taking one with a deliberate electric charge running through the leading edge surfaces of the entire plane.
