Open source means the design can be shared amongst different manufacturers. Still in the testing phase, hope to build an improved iteration next year.

Quote: Open source means the design can be shared amongst different manufacturers. Hmm... I've never seen that definition. The rest of the world seems to consider open source to mean that it is publicly available. What you and the article describe is a closed source licensing agreement with NDAs, etc. https://opensource.com/resources/what-open-source . That's fine, I just think it's misleading to call that open source.

I think the rights are a bit in flux, and i am not an expert on the data rights. Should be a game changer in regards to cost.

Since it is being developed internally by the Air Force the resulting design should be in the public domain.

What we need is a 350 hp turboprop that burns 20 gph and costs 60k. You know that a brand new TSIO550 that makes 350hp is more than twice that much? List price is $135,000, with a $28,000 core charge!

It’s got 10 times the parts and 10 times the complexity so it should cost that much!

I wonder what would happen if we put four TJ100 jet engines (the kind used on SubSonex) on Bonanza-size airframe... https://www.pbs.cz/en/our-business/aero ... -pbs-tj100

Fuel consumption would be another matter...
