Why are people fleeing Illinois? I’m a big fan of mooneys but at 6’ 4” I wonder how comfortable I would be. As far as why people leave Illinois I suspect it’s the same reason I left Vermont. Too many politicians who believe the only way to balance a budget is to raise taxes.

Thanks for all the advice! I will join the advanced cessna group but if it’s anything like the twin cessna group (I’m also considering a 310) I suspect I will find more information from the members of Beechtalk.

Slow is relative but what you'll find is whenever the two airframes have the same power the 210 is always slower. We're only talking 5-7 knots but it's always there. Insurance is more on the 210, can be 2-3 times as much for the same insured amount.

I had a GTX335R installed at Van Bortel's a year ago. The other option is the GTX345, which will put ADS-B traffic and weather on the G1000 and supply bluetooth link to your iPad.
I opted for the 'out'-only solution to keep the aircraft as simple as possible. I use a portable 'in' solution (GDL39) and iPad with Garmin Pilot.
I'm a bit happier with the built-in XM weather, and my plane has built in Ryan TCAD traffic.
If you're interested in the type, do connect on the CAART forum.
https://www.cessnaadvancedaircraftclub.com/
The audience is smaller, but the information is excellent.
The CAART recurrent training events are very good as well. The Columbia/Corvallis/TTx have enjoyed a good safety record, and the safety and proficiency training with CAART have really been a part of that.

I am new owner if Cessna TTX on 299 hours. Previously flew a 182RG for 18 years and 2000 hours. Really love the TTX. Usually fly longer distances 170-250ft and routinely see 215 knots true LOP burning 15.5gph. Ability to climb above a lot of the weather means smooth air and options. I too fly most my missions with my wife and standard poodle so useful load not and issue. Clearly the Bo has great big access to the rear seats but the luggage door and compartment on the TTX are not small. Also you can easily fold the rear seat down for longer luggage. Love descending for 100 miles out of the FL’s seeing 220-230 knots true. Turbo out of high altitude airports out west is a dream. Have flown all over the west, Southwest and northwest and have come to appreciate the turbo. TKS or FIKI a must. A/C a must have in summer. Fly the G1000 and G2000 both before you buy. The G2000 touchscreen controller is amazing. I’ve flown both G1000 and 2000 and frankly upgraded to the TTX for the avionics. Btw the 400 has way more elevator authority than the Cirrus and 350. No difficulties in landing and a great cross wind platform. Will chew through brakes if you land fast. Like others have said it’s a 3600 GW airplane so jamming the brakes to make taxiways isn’t always an option. I’m at KMSN if your in the midwest and want to see it or fly.

You would fit very well in a Mooney with headroom to spare. Al Mooney was a tall guy. Seating position is sports car-like, lower to the floor with legs stretched out, with plenty of leg and head room. Some folks prefer SUV like seating, though. I'm sure someone nearby would happily let you try one on if you're curious.

Faster, better to hand fly is why he prefers it.

I would never ever attempt to talk someone out of a Columbia.
My 2003 Columbia 350 vs 2014 SR22... About the same on loss of elevator authority when you get slow... Notice I did NOT say TOO slow.
Put a case of water in baggage compartment and carry a weeee bit of power into flair.
I came over the fence in SR22 last week at 66knots And greased landing

I flew a 2006 COL4 for five years. Avidyne model. Great airplane and I often miss it. I was worried about future support/upgrades and bought a G58. I owned a T210 and that was a great airplane too albeit slower than the Columbia and used more fuel but hauled a ton. The Mooney is way too small for me at 6.2.

Whats the saying over at Brighton, you have nice wide grass strip with a paved center line.
Been in and out of there a few times in both bonanzas and my wife's Ercoupe (for annual).
I remember having a little pucker factor the first time landing there in heavy cross wind.
Neat little air-park .
Do you know a Marv Dunlap?

Check out the ES-P. My neighbor has one and loves it. I had a 4-P and enjoyed it very much. Be sure to check out the RDD LX-7 too. http://www.rddent.com/LX-7 has similar low speed characteristics to a 400 but goes 260kts and is pressurized.

Sean Tucker's Tutima Aerobatic school developed an aerobatic/upset course for the Columbia. They have a picture of a Columbia doing a loop. It is supposed to be a very, very strong airframe.
