My wife and I are getting an AirCam.

It was a factory demo that was partially damaged and is being reconstructed by the factory.

We’re hoping to take delivery by December 1st.

We both have had demo flights at Sebring (we live in Tampa) and fell in love with the “low and slow”, but especially with the twin engine configuration.

Upgraded to a Dynon flat panel avionics package, lights and rear seat analog gauges.

Took a flight in a friends AirCam with the full canopy and didn’t really care for it. We may look into some mods that reduce the wind in the back seat with a partial rear enclosure.

I have been reading about (and watching YouTube videos) Rotax 912ULS engines, they seem pretty bullet proof. Our engines were just totally IRANd with new carbs, will have the three bladed carbon fiber Whirlwind props.

We owned an Aeronca Champ for over 8 years, so no problems flying a taildragger. It seemed like the AirCam was one of the most docile taildraggers out there.

Looking for owner and operator input.

Thanks,

Butch

Gotta ask....how much?

Its such a neat platform.

Good for you guys!

One last question. How do you handle saltwater ops and maintenance?

Congratualtions. A different kind of flying that should be lots of fun.

I suggest you have the engines maintained by someone that is Rotax trained. You might even enjoy attending one of Lockwood's Rotax training and certification courses.

Giving rides in my Breezy has been the most fun aviation interaction with others I've ever had. (I have a breezy because I couldn't afford an aircam.)

Give lots of rides...

Everytime you post a picture of your breezy I picture you sitting there while crossing the sierras. :bugeye:

Congrats to the OP on the Aircam, sure looks like fun.

All good inputs.

It’s a work in progress. The factory has mounted the engines and installed the avionics panel. It originally came with round dials, but another owner had a Dynon panel and wanted the Garmin, we bought his panel.

The engines have been totally overhauled with new carburetors by Lockwood, they are the Rotax gurus. We’ll take the owners course in early 2020.

We intend to give a lot of rides, with two engines low and slow - is the way to go!

Unfortunately, this is an early model and was not designed for floats, but that’s ok for us.

Butch

I climbed into one at Oshkosh this year...open cockpit (like a flying canoe). Remarkable power to weight ratio. I was particularly amused by the "heater instructions" placarded on the panel. It read something like: For increased heat, turn to course 180 degrees and continue flying until warmer. Have fun with the plane; they look like a blast.

As I understand it, the aircraft was designed to fly on one engine in order to avoid being lion fodder. Given the propensity to put as much as possible on and in those things in that arena, I always wondered if they had quick disconnects for the cargoes!

You say "unfortunately" when describing this aircraft as an early model. From the comments here I think you'll find most of us feel your situation is not "unfortunate" but rather "enviable".

Celebrate your good fortune and enjoy the heck out of that airplane. It looks like just way, way too much fun!

Two weeks ago was in Satellite Beach and doing some shore fishing. Had one fly down the shoreline at about 50mph. Man that looked like fun.
