I own a remote fishing camp and had a customer rent one for a trip up there. He told me that the email function was completely unusable - wouldn't download emails. I didnt experience it myself, its just what he told me. Don't know about texts.

I haven’t set it up for email and most probably won’t for what I need. Nice thing is anyone in the plane can logon and send texts or make calls if needed. I bought an external antenna and set it on the dash, but many people just set the unit on the dash. Has a SOS feature if needed. You connect via WIFI to the unit with your phone, so your headset can connect to you phone via Bluetooth.
I have the basic plan from blue cosmos and it’s $57 a month. Text and calls are extra.
Kevin You still need to use their special app to send and receive texts? You can’t just use iMessage can you?

The iphone connects to inreach via bluetooth. I find it seamless and intuitive. You can set the frequency of the handshake to more or less often. Yes you communicate thru their app. Cost about 13 bucks per month and .50 per text after an allotment.

Paul, you're referring to the inreach, correct? I think we'd like to know how the Iridium Go sends and receives texts. I have the inreach and find that the speed it sends and receives is too slow. It takes about 20 minutes each way.

Jason, You are correct, you use the iridium app. It does access your contacts, but you have to put the international +1 in front. You can get a US phone number for a few more dollars a year if that matters to you. Kevin

. You can also force it to check for messages at any time.
