Well of course I could. But why?

Do you think it would be helpful to upload a video?

The Raptor’s high speed taxi tests reminds me of the flying car (crash) at YIP last December. Lots of fanboys succumbed to a reality distortion field because ... Engineer! Computer! CFD! RC model!

Hoping that Peter does not experience an unplanned, under prepared first flight. At least Sanjay Dhall had the benefit of CFR professionals being on-duty.

Someone already asked but I did not see the answer. How much money does a test pilot typically make on a project like this? Are they paid per hour, per flight, per project with say up to X amount of flight and ground hours? Just curious.

Also any thoughts on what Peter will do if these pilots refuse to fly the raptor, or point out a large number of safety concerns that must be addressed before they will fly? I think that is a real possibility. I am worried he might decide to do the flight tests himself.

I have been pulling for the guy all along. I hope it goes well for him. However after seeing the first weight, then seeing the second weigh in, then watching him keep adding more weight I don't see this thing working out the way he dreamed. I do admire his spirit, determination, and his great tenacity most would have never started, or given up long ago.

When my Stallion first flew, 13 years ago, the going rate was $1K per day plus expenses. Cost me that much from a noted personality who did a few crow hops on the runway.

Then my buddy suggested a great test pilot who also charged $1K per day but it was for fly n build. He realized that most often when the test pilot shows up they will not or cannot fly for a lot of different reasons. So he would remain for the day to build as part of the deal. And he was a great builder having done a dozen or so homebuilts. He still does this but only for his friends, out of KSZP.

It’s good to have a fairly local test pilot for obvious reasons.

Best,

Tom

Why? This ain't our problem.

Yeah, I keep wondering where all of this "We" stuff is about.

$1000 a day sounds cheap to me for flying something with as many unknowns as the raptor. I could see that price if you were test flying an RV10 for a builder or something. Its a known design, engine etc. But I would not take this job for a $1,000 a day even if I was a test pilot.

What are the qualifications to be a test pilot?

Hours? Years? Obviously time in type isn’t an option?

Aerobatics? Some other training?

Or is it just someone who is crazy enough to take the job?

I haven't seen where Peter has mentioned the 3rd party analysis has been completed. I think he is just going to search around until he finds someone that will fly it. Really, if he isn't going to take the advice, he should fly it.

I have ran across three young low time pilots that have test flown homebuilts for their owner/builders at no charge. Just to get flight time to move to the airlines. Too risky for me, these young men were convinced it was safe.

So maybe the price is free, no time in type required!

good vid, covers pretty much 'a - z' to that point, plan was to make Osh, looks exhausted,

sounded like (loong vid..) an untested/unknown (in a canard) 1 of a kind flaperon deal raised by & discussed with the test pilot, but the main issue was going with a single ecu, that did have a ltd battery backup

i understood he is mainly looking for initial flight testing with a test pilot,

tonnnnns of comments, still very positive, many around prop clearance & redrive issues in the next few vids

whoall was involved in the redrive setup? i did run across info where some parts were sourced but ....i'd like to see detailed info on the whole deal

It is Peter's design. As far as the redundancy of the electronics. From this video, it doesn't sound like something he is going to pursue.

I had forgot about his elevator setup. That one run where he had the nose shoot way up makes you think whether that fowler design is going to cause some unwanted inputs.

He's just trying too much at once in the version 1.0. With so many changes from a typical canard, there was absolutely no reason not to put a proven engine/redrive just to prove the aerodynamics. The TDI and his redrive should have been sitting on a test stand.

I paid $500 for my first set of flight tests. But this was the Velocity test pilot who knew the planes and was also familiar with my specific plane.

There is a big difference between the first test flights of the Velocity you built and the flight test program Velocity conducted on the prototype(s) before selling you the kit. If I remember correctly, Velocity actually lost one of the prototypes to a deep stall and had to do some redesign. The Raptor will need a similarly thorough and professional test program if the kit is to ever go into production.
