I will send photos but a brief history:

The upgrades started with move to an IO 550 with D Shannon baffles and 100 pound gross weight increase. Then moved on to the Garmin 530 and 430 WAAs gps and audio panel connected to an Aspen PFD. I kept the vacuum instruments as back up. This was all prompted by a vacuum failure in IMC which was a bit unnerving. Next was the Garmin 345 GTX for ADS B in and out. I had been using an old Garmin 396 connected to Sirius satellite weather for in cockpit weather but now with the 345 I get it on the 530 and my IPAD running Foreflight. A big improvement!
The aircraft was repainted for the first time over 20 years ago and was looking a bit shabby as was the interior so I bit the bullet and had it repainted and new custom interior last year. It looks brand new and better than many newer models I have seen.
The autopilot was problematic for quite a while so that was replaced with a GFC 600 with roll steering connected to the Aspen. A unique feature is "envelope protection" eerily similar to the 737 Max but easily overridden. Approaches are very precise and although I haven't tried it would put the plane on the center line and on the runway.
I added the JPI engine monitor 830 with fuel flow and back up on all the other stock engine gauges.
Finally the most important upgrade for flying in hot environments was the air-conditioning by AC systems. They also installed tinted windows at the same time. The result is amazing. The aircraft cools faster than my car to a comfortable level and there is no requirement to turn the system off for takeoff or landing. It is the same system that comes standard on new Bonanzas. Finally while they were installing the AC, I took advantage of the STC for the baggage compartment extension.
In summary although I have invested a fair amount of money, the result is an aircraft more than comparable to a new Bonanza at a much lower price with a dramatically higher useful load.

Will,
Your post comes at a great time! After owning my "80 A-36 for 25 years, I'm looking at A/C Systems in Savannah, TN for an installation. Were you happy with their work and the results? I understand that they cut a section out of the aft fuselage for venting purposes. Were you happy with the workmanship quality? I'm heading to Naples, FL in a couple of weeks; where are you in FL and might I look at the install job?
Thanks,
Jim Coughlin
