Real ones that is.

One operates out of Palo Alto. Good illustration of what it “can” do. Full gross, hot day, you need more than that. Full gross is close to 1500 lbs payload after full fuel though.

It’s better than most small jets, not as good as PC12.

Pilatus is 1200 lb payload full fuel. So Piaggio is bringing it.

I agree I think you should start a thread on your project. I’m
Jealous.

Once I get it and panel is done I will definitely start a thread on it.

I'm interested too. That's not bad on runway length...….I like 400knots. I'm barely getting to 270 with global warming.

Avanti came with the old ProLine II system which was CRT based. Only the Avanti II has the updated PL21. But I think one would find that updating the PL21 to ADS-B/WAAS etc will cost just about the same as putting a completely new Garmin panel into the older Avanti, which is what Anthony is going to do. I think that's a smart play.

Kind of the same scenario exists with the early generation CitationJets.

BeechTalk—single-handedly reviving interest in, and values of the Twin Bonanza, MU-2, and soon Piaggio Avanti.
Buy one now before the prices start going up and good ones get hard to find!

Another vote for a separate thread. But, I can’t wait until you get the new panel. We want the play by play. :ohno:

Can you get him on here to explain why he’s buying one.

maybe he's been annoyed at having so much wasted runway pass under him after takeoff. With the piaggio he'll be able to use all of that runway.

Not according to the posts a few back. KPAO is not a long runway.

+1 for new thread - this is riveting stuff.

Is Piaggio financially healthy again - I thought they were circling the drain awhile back?

What is the fuel burn at cruise? How about short trips?

P180 cabin is awesome! This is such a great concept, it is hard to believe that Cessna hasn't copied it. Owner operators would flock to this if it didn't have the warts. I could care less that I fly a jet or a prop, I'm all about the numbers (speed, range, payload, cost).

Pardon my ignorance..... what is unusual about the cabin? I’ve searched some pictures but didn't find much. Wider? Taller? Saw some facing couch configurations. I’ve only ever seen one on a ramp In DuPage. Great looking plane!

Noise, or actually lack of it.

One was on the ramp at JCT when we landed Saturday. Probably just stopped for fuel cause we don’t get a lot of action at this sleepy airport.
He took off while I was hangaring the plane and man it made me a little nervous. He used about 4800 of the 5000 feet to get airborne.
Kids were like “what the heck is that thing?”
......then an Aircam landed and they said it again!

While I fly out of KSQL and am not averse to short runways, the guy flying the Piaggio out of KPAO does have me raise an eyebrow a little...

Here is takeoff ground roll.

Cabin is 5’9 and crazy quiet. Like 67db quiet. I have never been in anything like it.

Attached is a cruise chart too.

Edit; I put on a max range chart too. 33-35k seems to be the sweet spot on the Avanti 1.

To me, it is a nice mix of benefits of jet and turboprop. I occasionally want to go far and am fine pulling back to do it. 300+ true at lrc is not bad. Other times I want to get there so you blast around closer to 400kts down low. Doing the math vs a cj2, round trip block times end up being pretty darn similar. Piaggio running into the wind at 28000 on certain days can help a lot.

Wow, that’s a lot better than I was under the impression of. Hmmmm...
