Hey Gang,

I have been reading threads on the BeechTalk forums for several months, and I appreciate everyone coming together to share great information.

I upraded at the end of March '19 from a 1974 Grumman AA5 to a 1967 V35 Bonanza. My main reason for the upgrade was the need for more gross weight carrying capacity as my boys grew up.

I was very lucky to have a great ABS instructor at my airport who ran me through the ABS check out program. Now that I have over 50 hours in the Bonanza I am really appreciating the solid handling characteristics and graceful speed of my new plane.

I am very happy with the extra 40kts I picked up in speed (at the expense of almost twice the fuel burn.)

I loved my Grumman which was very light on the controls and super efficient, but the Bonanza is an incredible upgrade.

I am a private pilot with 520 hours total time in GA and over 3,100 hours in B-52s as the Navigator/Weapons Officer.

I met several members while seaching for my V35 and look forward to making new friends on BeechTalk and participating in the discussions.

Holler with any questions. I’m south of you, in Covington.

Twice the fuel flow... but also more speed! For what it's worth, I get better miles per gallon in my V35 at 170 kts than I got in my Piper Archer at 120kts.

Archer = 120kts/10gph = 12 MPG
Bonanza LOP = 170kts/13GPH = 13 MPG

If you don't have GAMIJectors to run Lean of Peak, get some and learn how to use them :D

Sure, I could probably get 176 kts on 16 GPH running rich of peak, but I would be burning 3 GPH more to get another 6 KTS. Not worth it. I know the Grummans are more efficient than the Pipers, but the Bonanza MPG is not shabby considering the speed.
