Was a member of Eclipse Owners group for a while. Just got an email that the GPS rollover has effectively disabled their ability to use their GPS and probably disabled their ADS-b, at least for the time being. They can still use VOR navigation. What a kick in the butt for an already struggling group. Such a great flying plane too. But reminds me of when WAAS was coming out and everybody was trapped in their G1000 OEM platforms and wondering where the solution was going to come from. Of course same thing happening with ADS-b now in some platforms.

Indeed the same exact thing which is why you can't buy "one off" anything in life anymore.

I'll never forget my demo of the Eclipse in 2008 and seeing those AVIO avionics and thinking "where's the Garmin"?

After many assurances by Gulfstream and Honeywell that the rollover event would not affect our fleet...it did. The FMSs got stupid because the date on the GPS changed itself to 23AUG99 (that's 2099, not 1999). Apparently it only affects some platforms. Honeywell issued a notice and a short term fix. Notice attached for your reading pleasure.

Interesting Charles. Where did you get that info? There’s nothing on the pro pilot forum to indicate these planes are grounded.

NO!! Your engineer is working on the KI300 project or maybe the 230 AP project. This rollover would back those up another 6 months to a year.

IS&S and ONE don't exactly love each other or have a lot of money so I wonder if this issue (which I assume is software?) will ever get fixed on Eclipse Jets?

Y2038....
For the non computer geeks a synopsis...

The Y2K problem was mostly a user interface problem.
The internal date representations internal to the software were mostly ok.
Just the forms and presentation to the user needed to chance to handle 2000.....

The standard way to represent a date has been a signed 32 bit number showing the number of seconds since Jan 1 1970...

This can represent any date between ~1901 and 2038

On January 19th 2038 at 3:14:07 UTC that field will run out of digits...
IE the internal representation of the time, (not the User interface) will not longer support the current date.

I would expect to see all sorts of problems in the weeks and months leading up to this...
If I'm still around then I'm going to be in a cabin in the woods far from civilization....
