Any thoughts about the Nextant 400XTi?

The Nextant deal is a little confusing and I'm not sure what will happen there, but the FJ-44 powered Beechjet is awesome!

Great airplane. Range, speed, solid airframe, best cabin in it's class... except maybe the Premier, but the 400A has more seats. Take a late model, low time 400XP... add the engines, winglets and a G5000 and you have the ultimate jet of that category. I'd rather have it than a CJ3+ and that is saying something!

That is an obvious and justifiable negative, however I believe that in any high performance jet a full crew is a plus. I know a lot of folks who operate CJ3's and 4's, most operate with two pilots, some all the time but all of them if there is any weather or they are flying into busy airspace.

BUT... PLEASE... Let's not get that debate started again. The reality is that the Beechjet is a Part 25 airplane and it will never be single pilot.

That's a bit of a trade off... hot and high not so great, but it sure is a smooth ride!

I'm familiar with the smooth Mitsubishi-designed ride... :)

Exactly! The MU2 and the Beechjet are basically twins. Flying tanks. The Beechjet is so much stouter than a Citation that there is hardly a comparison.

The XPr BeechJet is an incredible value in a light jet. 2000 NM range amazing climb and tremendous fuel efficiency. King Air fuel flow numbers at 440 kts . A CJ4 is gas hog by comparison!

I’ll save the wiki pilots some effort this info is not there ! So google away!

I wonder how many folks are buying Phenom's just to be free of Williams.

My hunch is it's a small percentage if even any. The upside is that they are exceptionally reliable.

It's been very interesting to read these jet and turbine/tp threads.

When I see these incredible ongoing costs, I can't help but wonder if the business model REQUIRES it.

When one considers the infrastructure required to support the airplane or engine (both from a regulatory and owner-expectation standpoint), those costs start to make some sense.

Put another way: would an "open source" airplane or engine be viable?

What I mean is this: imagine an airplane or engine built with as few "custom" parts as possible; that came with a maintenance manual that referenced common and acceptable practices wherever possible; released drawings and specifications for every part; put very little limitations on maintenance and inpections... etc.

Sounds great, right?

Now, would that company make enough money selling just new units to remain viable for very long? Wouldn't they still be "on the hook" for support of the fleet as it aged?

This could probably be its own thread.

Standard Aero can do hots and overhauls (I think) on the 600 series.

Standard Aero is not an option for overhauls on 600 series engines, nor is anyone besides Pratt.

Well I think you write a check to Pratt, and Standard Aero does the physical work. IIRC.

I was told that wasn’t an option with the 600 series

You may be right on the Mustang however the PW610F-A on our old Eclipse was visited by Standard Aero every time we needed warranty work and they did our hot sections on-wing & on-site in Florida. Their guys told me Pratt subs all the field & repair work to them. We were on the Pratt engine program. YMMV.
