Why don't you suggest they go on the low utilization TAP payment plan? No minimum hours on that plan.

I would guess that a lot of the owners flying owner flown jets are also flying different aircraft. They might only be flying 125 hours a year in one plane but flying more frequently in others.

When I checked on this, it was the same price as a typical contract just phrased differently to make you think you weren’t paying the same amount, but it’s all the same in the end.

Netjets won't let me fly unless I let them hire me. And then it becomes a JOB!

Not sure what you are saying. You pay same hourly rate per engine with no yearly minimum hours. If you fly less then 150 hours you don’t owe Williams $ for hours not flown up to 150.

I can. I like to travel but I also like chilling at home. (yes even on Friday night with a bottle of Duckhorn). There's only so many places to go and I don't need to travel for work. Hotels don't excite me and I have a nice pool at home. the best beaches are in Hawaii and a 525 won't do it. Kids have sports on weekends and school during the week. I'd totally buy a jet though and fly it < 150 hrs a year. why not? would be dope.

Believe it or not most owners I know are flying 200 hours a year or less. I think guys like you that fly more than that are actually the exception. You have to remember that in most cases these are very busy people, even if they use the aircraft for business, they just aren’t in it that much.

Having said that, our M2 driver just told me that he flew it 37 hours since we closed...

The joke about your airplane being slow has some truth in it, you rack up a lot of hours in a turboprop because of time to climb. The actual leg time on these little jets is a lot lower than that of turboprops, because of reduced time to climb. Saying your airplane goes 270 knots is only part of it... it climbs at what 150 kts? These jets just don’t spend near as much time in the climb. So 200 plus hours in a jet is a lot.

I climb at 150. What speed is your “light jet” going when it has to stop for gas?

I could buy 3 or 4 “light jets” for the price of my used Pilatus. Why haven’t I done it? Because it doesn’t reallly save me time. It’s a fantasy. I’m still going to do it to say I did it but it’s impossible for most any light jet to save the pilot time in the course of a year.

The whole point is not sitting at home. Everywhere is home. Maximizing your time on earth. I almost never stay in a hotel. The internet has made renting homes and condos easy.

I share a hangar with a very nice 2008 CJ3 that flies 25 hours a year. I’ve asked to lease it as it ever flies anyways. The owner (not a pilot) won’t allow it. He loves having his jet sitting there in the hangar. Hey, if you can afford it why not? The only loser in he deal is the jet itself. I told him it would be better for it to be flying than sitting. Nope. Won’t do it.

I’m a little surprised the FBO we rent space from allows it. Aren’t fuel sales a big part of revenue? If I owned the FBO I’d be like “start buying gas or go base that thing somewhere else”

Define Best.

I think the Mustang is the best owner flown light jet when factoring in cost, reliability, efficiency, size, speed, range, payload, high hot performance and ease of single pilot IFR operation for a typical owner flown GA mission.
