Hi all!
I'm Greg Thornbury from Dallas. With two partners, I own a P-Baron, based here at Addison. For the past three to four years, we owned a Twin Comanche and in early December of '07 sold the TwinCo and bought 58TB, the P-Baron. We were very fortunate to know the previous owner through Angel Flight (now Grace Flight) and dealt directly with him on the sale. When we acquired the Baron, she had about 75 hours on a new set of engines and props from RAM, so we've got the big stuff under warranty and are just now getting her really broken in.
With one of my partners I attended the BPPP school in Phoenix this month, and I strongly recommend it for anyone transitioning into the Baron. I came away feeling very confident in the airplane and learned a lot in the areas of systems, etc.
After getting the airplane about all we've done is the WAAS upgrade to our 430's and move the Avidyne to the latest rev. This is one heck of a traveling machine!
Thanks for the site...been a good source of information for me so far.
Cheers,
Greg N58TB KADS

Howdy,
Jeff Snyder recommended I take a look at Beech Talk via a StudentPilot.com post. And I'm glad I did, because the participation is outstanding! I am a CFI, CFII, and MEI currently based at Chandler, AZ (KCHD). I instructed full time in the Denver area (KBJC) from 2003-2005 at McAir Aviation. I tried to wait patiently for multi students, but unfortunately the "stars never aligned." (Mainly due to a crooked system the chief pilot used to assign multi students, which I didn't catch on to until I could no longer afford to be an instructor.)
I moved my wife and son to AZ in July 2005 to become a co-owner in a family business. The business has a '99 A36 (N417K) that I fly over 100 hrs. a year. A wonderful airplane, but it wasn't helping get the multi time I needed to move up the aviation career ladder.
This past November, a partner and I bought a 1972 E55 (N98DC) from Carolina Aircraft to build time in. The ferry flight back home was interesting to say the least. We ended up putting the aircraft in the shop for over a month due to various squawk$$$. I was very disappointed in Carolina's lack of disclosure of certain items that a prebuy inspection would never catch and will never do business with them again.
While N98DC was grounded, my partner still needed to make a few important business trips that only a GA twin could make work. So we made a deal with a good friend and dealer, Mark Hegg, on a 1967 Colemill B55, N616UA. IO550s, winglets, VGS...what a fun machine to fly!!
Anyway, both Barons are for sale; whichever one sells first, we'll keep the other. If you think I'm insane to have two Barons, you're probably right!
I hope to contribute to the forums as much as I can. Thanks to Jeff for getting it going.

Glad you can join us and represent the international contingent! If you've read much here, you know I also love the Mooney. There are already threads here about Mooney vs. Bo, but it boils down to this: It will cost slightly more over the long term to operate the Bo. But you'll do so with greater comfort, load hauling capability, and speed. They're also a helluva lot easier to work on. Since you already found the "My first airplane" thread, for further reading you might look in the archives of the Beech List in Jan 2007 for a thread entitled "Where's the Stretch? Was: How fast do you go?". A guy name Philip Guziec was in the same predicament and got a lot of great info from the list... good reading. Btw, anyone know if Philip ever bought a Bo?

I'm going to buy a plane before the European Denmark VAT route closes in a few months, and i wan't to be absolutely sure that i buy the plane that fits the bill for me, i'm doubting between the Mooney and a Bonanza. I like reading all the posts here and i hope to find answers why to buy a Bonanza instead of the Mooney. Hi Yves, I rented a Mooney for a year before I bought...a Bonanza. That was in 1983. After I sold my twin in 2006, I again looked at Mooneys and bought...a Bonanza. They are both great airplanes, but the service, comfort, and ease of maintenance issues argued in my case for the Beech. Best, Jay

I'm based in Seattle. I co-own a 1989 A36, updated with a GNS530W (but now ready for new paint and interior). That's for transportation. I also own and fly an Extra 300L, which I fly for fun and for giving aerobatic rides and stall/spin/upset training.

Well this is me. I've said a little about me elsewhere on this forum, but here's a picture of the plane I have...ok, so not exactly complete yet, but a guy has to start somewhere right?
It's a Beech 18, specifically a 1951 SNB-5. Original panel, (most have been chopped to add newer nav and radios). I love the control wheel, and the throttle levers are from WWII, so a tad earlier, but I like the way the knobs are made of ply to save on precious aluminium. (Sorry, aluminum...I'm from the UK alright!). I have one rudder also, so strictly speaking, I could almost get her in the air don't you think!
I have a section on my website dedicated to this passion; it'll give you a little more info if you can stand anymore!!
Great forum...thanks guys.
Dom

Dom, I just looked at your website. What wonderful art! I love that you sketch right next to the plane. One can see that this is your passion. Good luck on getting the rest of your plane!! If you are ever in the center of the US, we have an Airline History Museum you might find of interest here in Kansas City. http://www.airlinehistorymuseum.com/
