So Larry,
Curious about how much of a beating your prop takes in that environment?

Nothing on the prop, the Nickel leading edge on the MT prop is amazing, plus I take care of it, trying to apply power smoothly.

Underside of the horizontal takes a beating, some VGs get knocked out and there are some dents.
One day looking at a video I discovered when braking hard rocks fly straight up and then comes the horizontal at 40 mph to hit them all.
Now I try to brake as smooth as possible and use the whole length of the gravel bar.
This seems to be is working because I have doen more than 30 landings on gravel bar this season and no VGs have been lost.

I'm sorry, Larry, but it looks better in a Howard DGA. :D

Pretty equal to the beating Larry takes in these threads, I'm guessing.... :D

Always enjoy the videos. Great to see flying for the fun of flying.

Nice flying and video. How and what do you recommend for those interested to train for this extreme flying? Is there a monetary benefit to pushing the envelope in this manner? The camera can be an evil temptress. More seductive than money. How does your insurance feel about this endeavor? Does it get past the 'careless and reckless' catch all for the FAA? I have to echo Tom's commentary. I found myself pushing the envelope more and more while doing slow turns close to the ground so a geologist could get photos for earthquake studies in some very inhospitable terrain. This in a 172 with Horton STOL kit, door off, cameraman hanging out by the seatbelt. There is for certain a rush in knowing one is on the very edge with no room for error, it just is not practical on a regular basis.

Nice one :)
Actually Beechtalk has a very civilized crowd, and one of the best, most are pilots and if they say something is trying to aid in the safety department.
The worst are Youtube comments, non pilots or sim pilots who think they know more than Bob Hoover, many times I just disable comments on those videos when it becomes too much.
