Mike, would you consder gov't/military purchases of Cessna airplanes as "subsidies"? That's the most common counter arguement from Airbus: Our massive military spending is a de facto subsidy to our aviation sector.

I don't have an opinion on this, but suspect this might be what he's getting at.

Anyway, I don't see how Concorde (no "The" in front of the name)'s development being subsidized has anything to do with the topic, or the achievement of the fastest civil aircraft ever built.

Quick question for the X's drivers: did you have any limitation (max ceiling?) if the YD were to fail for instance?

edit: trying to be less of a &^%# to Bill, sorry.

I didn't see any Citation X registered to a government entity in the US registry.

I didn't specify the X. I wrote, "Cessna airplanes".

I specified the Citation X since that is the subject of the thread, and its source of funding was questioned.

Again, I have no opinion about whether or not Gov't purchases are subsidies, but I think it is safe to assume that Cessna does not run every project in a silo.

The Gulfstream G650 briefly was the king of the hill for about a year and a half before the Citation got a few improvements and a little more "more speed".

At the time there were no government orders for the G650 but there certainly was a lot of previous purchases and funding for Gulfstream, General Dynamics, and Grumman in the past and likely Gulfstream and GD in the future.

US government orders are why they are still building the G550

It’s just hard to beat a Gulfstream, good and dependable airplane that’s built like a tank.

John, how was the reliability of the X you flew compared to other corporate jets you've flown. Would you say the cost of ownership was equivalent per mile flown? Don't see why it would be so much more to operate...
