Mineral Canyon, again. I had to relocate to TEX as our airfield is down for 6 months, so after a strut refill we launched. To our surprise it was bumpy below 10,500’. Dropped into the river canyon from a new to me approach, and the wind was opposite from what I expected. Did a 180 in the canyon and landed on 32 without incident. We hiked until it got pretty warm, got back to the plane a my temp probe said 100 degrees in the vent. I didn’t believe it but decided to taxi to the far south end of the strip. I felt it get soft and tried to spin around. The nose broke thru and sunk in the sand...to the level of the bottom of the pants. Much digging with our hands and pushing, pulling, sitting on the horizontal to get the nose up for back fill finally got us reversed with solid ground under the nose. I blew the hot start, but got it on the last dregs of battery power. What an adventure! A flat nose shovel, plywood, extra water and shade will be added before another run. I could not find the rock engraved Kit Carson cross, but continue to search, on foot and computer. Bringing a vet scatologist with me suggested that what I was calling cow shit was actually horse shit. Next time, I’ll call them bumps on the runway. I did see evidence of a colt with the adults. I’ll sleep well tonight. Oh yeah, sunscreen and fishing shirts/hats. The back seat was overflowing with Telluride outer layers.

Eric, we need to meet up soon again! I have been wanting to get into Mineral Canyon for a long time. Hopefully it does not flood this spring.

Hi to you and Katie!
It’s getting pretty hot...I’d go for morning ingress/egress with or without an overnight. Pretty good camping, I believe. Water filter for river water, chairs and shade!

Eric... here's the thing. The AirGlass isn't that expensive and it allows you to pop up to the 8:50s on the rear and anything up to 8:50 on the front. (Dont put the 8:50 on the front, need one size smaller)

You're doing the off road stuff.... might as well pony up.
