That is very interesting. I wonder why the smaller Cessna's aren't in the AD? I am okay with that since my Cessna 140A has no AD's. I would love to keep it that way. LOL

So... What is the fix if cracks are found?

I was wondering this myself..it just says how much it "should" cost.

A Cessna kit (around $3K for the kit, installed).

"...repairing any cracks found by modifying the area with the applicable Cessna service kit..."

They claim less than $1000 for parts and 24 hours of labor.

In a way, this AD just shows how tough the Cessnas are. Think how many flight school planes or pipeline patrol planes have 10,000 or 20,000 hours on them... and it still took 30 to 50 years for this problem to show up and turn into an AD.

"The FAA is going with Cessna’s recommended intervals for the inspection and they don’t start until the airframe reaches 4,000 hours. The initial inspection has to be done within a year of that milestone or after 200 hours, whichever comes first. After that, it’s every 1,000 hours".

Looks like I have another 300 hours before the inspection. Every 1000 hours doesn't seem too burdensome.

Looks like the early model 172 and 182 aircraft as well as the 120, 140 ,150, 152, 170, 175, 180, 185, 190 and 195 are exempt. Must be a difference in the cabin construction.

By the way, this AD is in the proposal stage. Not in effect yet.
