 Post subject: Cessna 182Q Fuel Burn?

Aircraft: 1977 skylane 182Q
Concerning my new to me 182Q, what is the typical fuel burn at 2200 manifold pressure and 2300 RPM at say 5500 foot altitude at 20 degrees F? I just made a cross country of 253NM and it came out around 12 GPH roughly by topping the 80 gallon tanks off before departure and sticking it on landing. Is this a typical fuel burn?

At that power setting I'd probably be a gallon or so higher on fuel flow in mine......unless I was working the carb heat hard to lean further. Ballpark though.

George, do you have the factory 230hp engine?

Mike has a larger engine, which might account for a higher fuel burn, although a 1gph difference is within the range of plane-to-plane variation, I think.

Stock O470. I flight planned 14.3/hr for a two hour flight. Burned about 13.5 no engine monitor ~100 ROP. FP number was to be conservative with my inaccurate Cessna gauges on longer flights. Great plane 1980 182Q. Enjoy yours.

We have a 182J in our inventory with a JPI EDM700 with Fuel Flow. We average about 13 GPH running 50 degrees rich of peak EGT.

Thanks to all who responded. I have the 230HP 0-470-U engine and do not have any engine monitoring other than what came from the manufacture so I didn't squeeze out the best fuel leaning possible. Pretty happy though with around 12 GPH or actually around 10 MPG carrying full fuel and 2 passengers plus a lot of gear on board. My airspeed was around 137kts most of the flight and I did not check against true air speed. I hope I answered everyone's questions.

In a U engine, that’s 75% of rated power and at 75%, 13GPH is the standard average.
