As someone who has never flown in or personally flown such an aircraft it really looks awesome. All you need is a sandbar and a stiff wind and you are basically a helicopter.

The downside is, he now has to sit there with hands on controls and throttle to keep it upright and fixed to the ground. The TO and initial climb might be more impressive.

Establish the proper attitude, arrest the descent with power. Just like in the book. Nicely done.

Nice landing. Where was the Signature ramp guy to chock the plane?

I think that wind is a bit over the 20 mph mentioned in the article. Probably more like 40 mph. That was a very impressive 3-point landing in those conditions.

And then you setup a GoFundMe page so that other people can pay for your stupidity.

I guess he had the power so far back he couldn't add throttle fast enough to prevent the stall / spin? You would think that almost instinctive for a high-time pilot.

Note to self - to be more careful in the C Cub at low speeds / high angle near the ground.

Good instructional video.

I'm not sure if I'm more astonished that someone has the gall to put their hand out and ask for money for that or that society apparently sees that as normal and fulfills he request.

Hmmm, if you can't beat em, join em I guess . . . .i really do want to get a plane this year . . .

I read elsewhere that his friends set up the GoFundMe page.

Those SQ's can be valued at $200k plus. Didn't he have hull insurance?

The video comments said he was without insurance and that he did not request or set up the gofundme, but did ok it. It was requested by attendees who wanted to help out.

Did anyone else watch the control surfaces? The rudder stays pretty neutral throughout and he was trying to use ailerons to level the wings.
