Username Protected wrote: nobody cares about the G900x, because it's a dinosaur That was a big sticking point for me as well, as a computer guy, for quite some time. I finally resigned myself to having to upgrade when it came out. But as soon as they announced the G1000NXi the Osborne effect kicked in. Everyone knows that the new hardware will quickly replace the old in the G1000/G950/G900X model line, I'm sure sales of the old fell off a cliff. I was disappointed that Garmin didn't announce the "G900NXi", or whatever it will be, at SnF but I'm expecting it by Oshkosh. In the E-AB world we put off the avionics decisions as long as possible since things change so fast. I haven't even looked at the avionics options yet and won't until August. So I have reason for optimism that the NXi system will be in my plane and certainly any new orders.

And with better dispatch reliability, at least I hope so. I went through a period of one thing after another on my current plane after it reached drinking age and it colored my decision making. I'm willing to accept somewhat higher scheduled costs in exchange for fewer trip-canceling surprises.

I don't understand, you aren't the target market for the G1000Nxi, an old king air is, because it slips right into the same footprint as the G1000 currently in them, and various other reasons
why would you consider anything other than a G3X Touch if you are a.) experimental, and b.) going with garmin
The g900x was the flagship- before the G3X Touch, so it makes sense that Lancair brokered a large deal at that time, that was YEARS ago

Reading a blog where Austin Meyer kvetches about poor treatment of customers is far too rich for me. Nice Evo though. I love this plane. I'd take the PT6 for 1.2 over the Piston for 800k every time. That was the math last time I looked -- is it still in that appx ratio? I wish someone made a 400hp diesel.

I doubt Garmin is making any more of the old hardware except to refurbish old boxes as they come in, who would buy it? Osborne effect. And that counts double for the 950 (upgrade) and 900X (experimental) markets where customers have a choice, not limited by the type certificate. Quote: why would you consider anything other than a G3X Touch if you are a.) experimental, and b.) going with garmin Autopilot and F/D, both of which are important to me for single piloting. The GFC700 is the best and build shops I talked to -- again, with the exception of RDD -- don't think the G3X is up to the job. Note that the G3X Touch is standard and the GFC700 unavailable on the Evo piston and EAC (new name, no longer Lancair since the old lines were sold to Texas) was surprised by the pushback from potential piston buyers. It was quite a coup that Lancair managed to get the GFC700 on the Evo, Garmin hasn't done it for any other E-AB, they say it's too much work to customize the software for each airframe.

Unfortunately I'm told that doesn't work, the clearcoat to protect the carbon from UV yellows over time then has to be stripped and redone, hard to do with no paint protecting the carbon surface. In carbon fiber bicycles, I was surprised to find that a "nude" carbon frame was heavier than a painted one; they said that without paint they put on an extra, purely cosmetic layer of carbon to show through the clearcoat, it's non-structural so UV doesn't matter. I've seen some planes with a carbon weave painted on that looks really good.

I doubt your current plane is a dog; you certainly could sell it off to your old tailwheel instructor who would love TKS! Congratulations on the new build, it's cool to hear an Evo will be based on the field Dave.

What build shop are you using? Brian
