But a deal like $600/hr dry in a CII would be an awefully fun way to transport the family around for a year! Use JetfuelX and you will have an all in cost of less than $1,000 an hour at 360kts carrying up to 10 people. Better than a poke in the eye! Hell, that's what the Marquise was costing me (per hour), but that was back in the days of more expensive fuel.

Damnest thing is we have a card writer for the device. Called wingman /bendix. Said we have to use a serial cable. 9600 baud. Took a solid hour.

WTF...I am sure you could find one that works. But...that would take a lot of futzing around and in the mean time you could just do what you did. Heh...

The V had a Bendix GPS I never did get fully comfortable with and I had to dig up the manual on line and pay for it. None in the bird and the leasor didn't provide. Makes me wonder if the avionics manufacturers will ever get their heads together and agree on a common user interface for navigators. Done properly it wouldn't prevent innovation because the concept is based on having nearly unlimited "extensions" to the basic control methodology. It would be similar to the way many systems have a "basic" plus an "advanced" mode with the basic mode providing a standardized means of accomplishing the essential functions like entering a flight plan, selecting an approach, finding an airport in the DB and the mechanism for switching between basic and advanced modes. The advanced mode could provide additional features and or the manufacturer's preferred architecture for controlling all functions. Back when the most complex piece of gear on the panel was a HSI coupled to a NavCom, learning to fly a new to you piston powered airplane was all about flying the airplane plus a few tidbits about some simple systems like the fuel tanks and selector. Now you're lucky if you can transition from one 36 Bonanza with an Aspen an a pair of 430s to another with a G500/600 plus the latest Garmin GPS0 boxes without spending a week or two getting acquainted. Even with the same equipment, different software versions can lead to some serious confusion.
