Igniters. Think turbine spark plugs

There's more to it than that. Igniters don't necessarily feed back into the intercom. It's like hearing spark plugs noise on your car radio; something isn't quite right. Having said that I don't know if it's worth the AMUs to correct it, although adjusting the right side audio level would be helpful to your #2 on those flights that you have one.

I get this same sound on all 5 Citations that I fly. It sounds louder on video than in person

Mark, why would the igniters be on after the start? Is that SOP for a Citation takeoff?

Turn them on taking the runway. Turn off after departure. Also on during icing and turbulence

Yep! They all seem to make noise. That's how you know they're working...beside the fact that your engines started.

Mark,

Sounds like an alarm when slow on final in your videos. Is this something the right seat is hearing also when landing?

Erwin,

Most manufacturers require the igniters be selected on anytime there is an increased chance of a flame out (turbulence or icing as Mark said) or during times when a flameout could be especially exciting, like when low to the ground during TO and Landing!)

The good news is that most newer engines have auto ignition so they come on whenever the FADEC thinks it needs ignition.

Most likely what you are hearing is the gear horn. It activates when power is retarded below a point where the plane thinks the gear should be down. It is obnoxious

Ok here's the deal. I only have 200hrs in the citation II in the last 10 months so I'm not an expert like some of the guys I fly with that have thousands of CII time but I know my way around the plane.

The whoop whoop whoop you hear is the igniters like previously mentioned. The long ding you hear several times is the altitude preselect letting you know you have 1000ft to go before level off. The thing about the alt preselect is that it will ding at you sometimes while your twisting in a new altitude also so it can make a lot of noise on some days.

The last part is I just listened to the video again and didn't watch for the physical nervous cues from the left seater. I honestly didn't hear anything that would make me nervous.

I can also say that the CII can be a very busy cockpit for the guy running the radios and avionics. Add in that and flying the plane managing the power changes with heading changes and level offs. Well that my friends is a lot of work.

Good job flying the plane Mark and not letting a freaked out passenger distract you in a busy phase of flight. Maybe a better preflight briefing could have helped but that's about all I can say was learnable from that flight.

Agreed, especially since Mark was a little too focused on his co-pilot :duck:

I did not even notice that she was nervous. Just goes to show...I still suck at reading women.
