not of it's current state, i moved her to the hangar next to the shop that will be doing the paint work, and had to enter a storage agreement with that hangar owner to hold it until my decision to continue to paint it, plan to get down there soon and take plenty of pictures

i'll dig up some of the last pictures i have of her- it was a no expense spared build, all glass, full leather interior, slider/taildragger, custom spec'd new IO-360 built by PennYan, hartzell CS prop

I'm emailing back and forth with a guy who wants to sell me a flying RV4. Suddenly, I feel like I don't know jack about buying airplanes.

What are the questions I won't think to ask?

does it have the long gear ( you want that )

does it have electric flaps ( ugh, i hated the manual ones )

is it the vans canopy or the todd's canopy (todd's has more room/headroom, and is UV filtered in most cases )

Lots of RV s at the home drome. Several reno racers as well. This guy is both. Here he is installing a supercharger on his RV8 in preparation for reno.

I found a RV8 in an estate sale not too far from me. I'm going to check it out this week. The bad thing is the guy passed away a little more than a year ago. I hope it hasn't been sitting for that long.

I love the Baron for famlily use, Buuut... I still miss the RV thing, and may own one someday. I kept the rivet gun, bucking bars, rivet squeezeer, and all the neat tools, which I still use.

I may be jumping in soon.

Visited the Van's factory last week, and picked up the preview plans for a 7, along with their toolbox kit to practice sheet metal construction.

Just returned from an EAA workshop to learn basic sheet metal skills, as I've never riveted anything before. Had a ball! Finished the practice projects earlier than most, so I had time to also assemble the toolbox, as I have no tools of my own yet.

I rarely use four seats, and the final straw was my favorite mechanic friend, an absolute Bonanza fanatic, left our home airport. I'm surprised what a difference that has made, just getting simple maintenance done. He encouraged my involvement, and now I have to schedule with the FBO who's fleet of rental Cessnas always takes precedence, understandably so.

The ability to perform my own maintenance, along with the ability to go upside-down now and then has me getting excited about an RV.

If I ever need four seats, the FBO has a really nice G1000-equipped 182 available to rent.

I have a buyer for the Bonanza. They've already had pre-buy inspection, and want to have the airplane soon.
I'm selling the airplane, but keeping the hangar!

A dwindling supply of piston-knowledgeable mechanics is a major push toward Experimental. I just spent 3 weeks on an ignition problem I could've fixed myself in a weekend (provided I could've found the right YouTube video :D ).

And it gets tiresome explaining that yes, I operate LOP and no, it's not going to make it burn valves and even if it did, that's not the reason my #3 cylinder is cold on the Right mag. And no, I don't think we need to do a compression check or a borescope......

Loved reading your post that was just oozing excitement and enthusiasm. I was at the same place 40+ years ago when I started an airframe rebuild project on a basket case Bonanza with a close friend who held an A&P. That project eventually led to my own A&P followed a few years later by my IA.
What you are doing should add a great deal to your overall enjoyment of aviation in the future. Great choice. I think you will be very happy you made this decision..

When I get tired of goofing off with the rental 150/152/172s, perhaps I'll find a used RV-3/4/6/ whatever to fly during construction.
