I've been watching videos of the Just Super STOL, (you know, cheap tail dragger  ) I thought tailwheel first was normal

That's not really something that can be blamed on a tailwheel first landing. Landing tailwheel first shouldn't put any more stress on the tailwheel steering than a normal taxi turn or a decent crosswind.
The typical downside of a tailwheel first landing is the inevitable "body slam" that can result. If you touch down tailwheel first with any kind of vertical decent then you have boxed yourself in a corner with no possible way to add angle of attack to the wing. Pulling back more on the stick in this situation only plants the tailwheel more firmly on the surface and relaxing pressure decreases angle of attack and decreases lift available. Addition of power and/or flaps are the only way to increase lift in this situation and neither are well suited to producing a smooth landing at this point in the flight.

I know it's not normal but if you watch a few "Just Superstol" videos you will see it's made for that....more of a helicopter landing :-)
