What you didn't see was his wingman a couple miles behind you. If he identified you as a threat, his wingman would be in position to shoot you down.

Don't piss him off by making life difficult. Never piss off someone who can ruin your day.

I hear what you're saying, but also, the Mediterranean Sea does not belong to the US, and it goes both ways, they can intercept you, but they have to not make your life harder for no reason...

True it does not - it does not belong to anyone...but

the Eastern end is effectively a war zone just now with the events in Syria. Life in Libya is not exactly peaceful these days. I would hesitate to overfly any nation's warships anywhere east of Malta about now.
