And that is a mistake !

It is not a deficiency to lack a chute.

Mike C.

Sales would be higher with a chute.

Not so sure 'bout that ...

There was a Poll over on the MooneySpace Forum and most owner's would not poney-up the extra cost, weight and space that the chute requires.

It's pretty obvious : Mooney pilots are Macho and Cirrus pilots are Pussies ... (running for cover !!) :bat:

Michael, LOL that's too funny.

With legacy Mooney a chute isn't an option. Weight(useful) and TC biggest obstacles. Anyway who wants to go slow like a Cirrus? :coffee: :hide:

All Ovations and Acclaims and new M 10's will be made in Kerrville TX. M10's may also be manufactured someday in China. At least that is current plan.

The other possibility is that the cheapskates on mooneyspace are not representative of the market the company is trying to serve.

Are pilots these days skilled so poorly that they are scared to fly without a chute?
Neopilots need hugs and chutes. :ohno:

It may or may not have to do with being cheap. I think if you ask a group of brand loyalists whether their brand should have some feature offered by the plastic clown planes, any answer beside "no" is a slight to their own purchase decisions.

I think if Mooney could have incorporated a chute, it would drive an increase in sales. Few of the Mooneyspace crowd have ever bought or will ever buy a new Mooney.

Getting back to clown planes, fixed gear is dorky. :duck:

In 2004, you could buy a TLS Bravo/Ovation from Mooney or a SR20/SR22 from Cirrus. The market favored the Cirrus product by a 15:1 margin. I am sure the Acclaim ultra is a spectacular plane, I am not certain the market in 2017 will be sufficiently different from 2004 to sustain the numbers they need to make production sustainable.

Wanna race my dorky - clown plane ?

I promise you, it will blow the doors off of your daddy's Bonanza and that's BEFORE raising the gear

I'm pretty sure most bonanzas would win this race. The race will included loading a weeks worth of luggage for two adults and two children. You will load though the pizza pan size hole in the side of your airplane. I will toss mine like an underpaid baggage handler into the cavernous door of my V35. (:

You obviously know nothing about the Lancair Columbia 300/350 .

It's good for 190K TAS without turbo and with the gear down.

The Lancair Columbia 400 (Turbo) will leave a 36TC so far behind it will be an embarrassment for it's owner.

I suggest you do abit of research before making such broad statements ...

Many new pilots - like me -cannot afford a chute. Thus we learn both how to fly, when to fly, and hopefully how to fly when the plane decides not too......

If / when there's a next plane, the short list included Mooneys. If I was considering new, I would choose this Mooney over a Cirrus.

Be interesting to see how the resale value of these planes runs over the years compared to Cirrus.

It is usually the pilot who is messing up, not the plane. Thus the chute is about pilot mistakes and not so much about aircraft failures.

Even when the plane breaks, it usually gives enough warning to prevent an accident or you have enough options that the chute is not required.

The rest of the industry would be happy if every pilot who truly NEEDS a chute buys a Cirrus and not their plane.
