So we've reached the point where the SF50 proponents are acknowledging that the SF50 performance is crippled by being a single, but they say the power of Cirrus marketing will make it a market success none the less.

B.S.

No one has joined hands and said it's "crippled" for any reason.

It offers the advantages of pressurization and jet speed over the SR-22. That's this airplanes' real competition.

That a more complex, more expensive and more capable twin could have been built instead is immaterial.

Considering the price of an all up SR-22, the price of an SF-50 is a very reasonable step up in price for the performance improvement.

Theoretical twinjets and turboprops that have been out of production for thirty years are not competitors in this marketplace.

After watching this, I want one!!
Of course it must perform in all respects as presented and promoted, but it really doesn't need to exceed these expectations. As presented and promoted, that is enough for a guy like me. Looks great!
Did you notice who the video target audience is? The clue is the 1 second (or 1/2 second) frames. It's a fast moving video, and it really drives me nuts. But, the target audience is the younger folks who thrive on the 1 second attention span, it's what they're used to and what they're attracted to. That's whom this video is marketing. It's not expected that the older grouchy stuck-in-the-past curmudgeons will be interested.
And the SF50 will do quite well without them. :D

I was told once that you should never fly an airplane that you have to bend over to preflight.

I guess someone needs to explain to me why it's considered "crippled". What is it about the performance of this plane that is so bad?

Gerry,

Here is an analogy, Dodge could have built the Neon with a V8 Hemi, instead they built a small 2+2 with a flat 4. So therefore the car is crippled.

Same for the plane... Cirrus could have installed two PWC600 series fans....

I don't see anything wrong with what Cirrus is doing. Personally I think it's cool. What I'd like to know is are the 300ktas numbers at FL280 maxed out or could it go faster if it flew into RVSM? If someone wanted to get more out of it, they could get the plane cleared for RVSM flight and do so. Wouldn't that save cost for Cirrus by not certifying the plane for that?

If I'm not mistaken, the NM/gal is almost the same as an Eclipse, which is one of the most efficient jets there is right? Eclipse only flies about 70kts faster as well, which over 300ktas isn't that much. Could you do more with a 2nd engine, sure, but will it really gain you that much more for the cost?

Well, that's a compelling video even for a guy who isn't a big Cirrus fan.

I am suspicious about the wafer thin seats and I'm not crazy about the Flipper design profile. A plane should look like a plane, not a porpoise.

However, I am impressed with the avionics and if the plane is as stable to trim as the video suggests then flying to the ATP PTS shouldn't be difficult.

Having read all 168 pages, and learned a bit from Mike C. and others, I really believe that Cirrus will find a welcoming market for this plane.

There are plenty of young guys making a few million a year that aren't interested in being a professional jet jockey but still have the dream of flying a "jet" and they don't require trans-continental performance. These aren't Teterboro to San Diego grinders but more likely a pleasure flight from your hometown to one of your favorite places.

Just guessing, but they should book 100+ units per year.

Those younger folks must like slow!

That video portrays very poor performance. Even the view out the side window looks slow.

Then he pitches all the way up to 5 degrees! Most jets pitch up higher than that when they have a engine failure on takeoff! Ridiculous performance. 2000fpm? My 421 did 1700fpm?

It's like flying a citation but only starting one engine?

2000FPM to FL200 and cruise at 300 knots is "poor performance"?

You guys are off your rocker!!!!

We have a few jet pilots on BT, is anyone here seriously considering one of these?

If you already own a jet you're beyond the SF50 stage. So the answer will be NO.

Why not pose the question to guys that own expensive piston planes?

Why would they? When i was flying a plane in the flight levels I didn't make enough to buy a ford mustang, much less a cessna mustang. People who are doing the driving in expensive, high-flying jets aren't the target customer for this.
