Bob-

Thanks for the update on 72C! It sounds like 2015 was one hell :bugeye: of a year for you and the family. I may miss a few of the congrats you are due, so please forgive me:

Congrats on getting married!
Congrats on getting the new/old bird home!
Congrats on the future aviator!

Can't wait to see more pictures and videos when time permits. I don't have the skills to do a restoration like this, but I'd sure love to be able to.

Hi guys,

Tonight at the hangar I decided to remove the old and worn interior door panel. It is original to this 1955 310. The overall condition is good. The location where your elbow rests is showing signs of wear. So I removed the panel, bright it home and started the task of unstitching the elbow rest. With all of these DIY interior jobs you guys are posting I thought I would give it a try.

All was well unitl the 60 year old material started to disinagrate in my hands. The pattern fabric I completely falling apart.

So, now it time for some new fabric. I REALLY want to continue the factory look. Any idea where a guy could get a fabric similar to what I have.

Here are some pics.

It is blue in color with a white diamond stitch.

You might try SMS auto fabrics. They manufacture reproduction fabric for collector car restorations. I think most airplane manufacturers just used existing auto fabric for the interiors when new. Hope this helps.

Antoni,

I sent them a pic of the fabric today. Thank you very much for the response. I hope they will find something close.

Bob

Good luck and I look forward to hearing if they came through. I have a few hours in a '55 310 and loved it. What a great airplane!

I have now decided as of last weekend to replace the interior to the 310 project. I was trying not to at this time but...

Action items:

1. Replace the foam only in the two front seats and rear bench. The fabric is in great condition.

2. Install new soundproofing/insulation throughout including the firewall. I am still not certain which product I will use. Any recommendations?

3. Paint the panel surround, and lower, lever column.

4. New carpet throughout.

I will leave the head liner. It is original and flawless. All of the side panels will be recovered exactly like it left the factory in 55'.

Oh, and of coarse the new panel as well. It will be basic IFR with center stack iPad.

I will keep the pics coming!!

It has been a VERY long time since I have posted any progress on the 1955 310 restoration. Here is where I am currently.

Well, I still have the plane. Over the past 15 months I have not completed many tasks on this build. With a new baby (now almost 2), my real job, and a house remodel, this 310 was left sitting in the hangar untouched.

Here are a few pics of the progress. I will also post more info as time permits.
