The 150's/172's in which I trained in '69 had the mirrors. Maybe to see who was taxiing behind, or to see a Bonanza overtaking the Cessna? Max that is an interesting idea. So far in two years I've found the rear window useless except for asking pax to check ice build up on the vertical stabilizer antennas.

Why don't they sell more of them? -No chute -No De-ice solution or problematic (Thermawing) while Cirrus had it for years -Limited service center network -Columbia not a household name -Lots of wonky stuff that made it feel like a kit plane (cowling pins - difficult to remove, partial wing-walk tape only, wood side sticks and wood fuel selector, horrible choice in fabric for the headliner, terrible airplane to work on) -Push/Pull Vernier engine controls (not sexy) -Not as well proportioned look-wise as a Cirrus. In the speed vs. chute wars, the chute won. -Pascal
I would tend to agree with everything EXCEPT " terrible airplane to work on" .
I own a Columbia 300 and I absolutely LOVE it and one of the best parts is the simplicity of it.
Given a choice between wrenching on a Cirrus or a Columbia ... I put my money on the Columbia.
ps: Did I mention how FAST it is

Paint them both the same and then compare side by side. I do like the look of the Columbia, although I'm not crazy about the poker straight nose gear. I always liked the Cirrus too. Inside? Levers trump all. No big iron has vernier knobs.

Our hangar just got a new TTx with the G2000 on management. I'm thinking about renting some time, just for giggles.
I sat in a similar one previously and was impressed with the size of the eye candy screens.
I'd be curious to hear your TTx/400 review, in light of your B55,
Warren
